New to apap
I've finished my first week of therapy. I'm only up to about 3 hours per night. I'm using OSCAR and SleepHQ. I will probably go OSCAR only after my SleepHQ trial ends. Last night's chart is concerning me with this waxing/waning trend but I'm not sure what to do with it.

I haven't shared from OSCAR before, I assume the "take screenshot" is the way to do that. Which charts would be best to have in view?

Last night's chart. Everything before around 11:15 should be ignored. I was awake and messing with settings, mask, etc.

Hey Chad, welcome.
How has your therapy been going? Sleep? daytime tiredness etc. Anxiety? Your charts are similar to mine.... Predisposition to CA events Low pressure therapy Inhalation time much longer than exhalation time. For me, i suspect plugging up of airway in nasal region for the longer inhalation times. Exhale, not sure yet why, but could be CO2 intolerance, wanting larger breath. I also do buteyko like breathwork, a la Patrick McKeown. Also was doing myo functional exercises, need to get back to that as well. I am a mouth breather, i am using the myotape. It has helped BIG TIME for Anxiety, stress and overall health. Also, i think it is helping me conserve energy during these times when i am having restless sleep, which has been a LONG Time now ! So nothing automatic here for me as far as therapy goes. I am also currently trying EPR again, just as a last straw really. Found i get the CA events with or without EPR, so worth a shot. VCOM was a bit inconclusive, but going thru data to see if there is something there. I have switched to nasal pillowsmask, Nova micro, F&P. That is specifically type of mask that Dr. Noah was catering to, however, for me, i think maybe i did best with the large Resmed Mirage that i have used for 35 years, but i dont like the mask cause it is so heavy, bulky, etc. etc. Maybe post a few more screen shots, i am interested in your results. Oh, also, wondering about your body type, fitness level as well? Check out a research paper that Patrick McKeown did with some other scientists i think, about Phenotypes.

RE: New to apap
Therapy is good. F&P Solo, CPAP 8cm, EPR off, Vcom in. Too much IPAP was definitely causing the problem. My only issue now is keeping the mask on longer than 3 hours. I'm still not feeling much fatigue relief probably just because I don't wear it enough. I'll get some screenshots up soon showing progress over the last couple weeks.
I'm hoping Patrick's work will get me off PAP. In just a few days I went from "my nose has never worked" to a nasal breather at least in the day. If I'm still on PAP in a year I'm going to try to get a KPAP.

RE: New to apap
same here, actually slept last night, again, without CPAP. (I have been trying without .)
but only because i get the 'burning smell' once in awhile and i dont like it!! nasal breathing, yes, i do it all day, at least, when i am conscious of it. may be less than i think at times, hard habit to break. i was wearing my chin strap during the day for awhile to be sure i was doing it. Pretty sure that if mouth breathing is stopped all will be good. However, i no longer tape my mouth closed. Patrick says very important to allow 'mouth puffing', which happens when the nasal airway is blocked, so you breathe out thru mouth. I like that recommendation! But my results are suffering by using the myotape, which keeps my mouth closed until needed. I am assuming this is the least of 2 evils. "Fatigue during day" you say.....yes, will take a few days to get rid of that. I found that when i have cpap dialed in AND i happen to have good open airways for whatever reason, i immediately get relief. Also, Breathwork, with lower air flows, probably helps conserve energy, increase effieciency of Oxygen transfer, which helps during day when sleep is not good. Keep those posts coming!! |
