Really? Only swallowing when exhaling is only possible if you are awake all night! Unfortunately, ear popping with swallowing will wake many people up at night while using the CPAP. This is destructive to the intent of using the CPAP. Real solutions for ear popping entail addressing sinus inflammation, airway inflammation, eustachion tube dysfunction. I never realized how often I swallow at night until my ears began popping all night long, waking me up on and off all night. Only swallow when exhaling - Indeed! How sophistic!

Told my sleep doc that I was having issues with my ears from the start, and that having to take 4 flights in 2 weeks had stuffed em good, and that the cpap was keeping them that way....  He gave me a tip that I thought I would pass along, seems I have read others say they have ear issues.  It's a real simple one.

Don't swallow until you breath out.  

That's it, and I am happy to say, not only did this stop air from filling the eustachian tubes, but it popped out the remaining poppage I was fighting.

My doc is a hosehead too.  I think I will keep him

This thread has really helped me! Although I think I remembered it backwards - I was swallowing after a full inhale... which helped a lot!

Maybe I don't swallow once I'm asleep? This only bothers me (as far as I'm aware of) while I'm trying to fall asleep.
