First night managed to make it through most of the night before having to stop because dry mouth was so uncomfortable.
This is with F20 full face mask
Any suggestions? Do I need a humidifier / heated tubing?

Hello GuyI,
Even though you wear a full face mask, dry mouth can occur. Especially if you have a tendency to mouth breathe or even if your mouth opens a little, air will flow through your mouth and cause dryness. Your leak rate is low and won't affect your therapy at all, but the dry mouth from small leaks can cause you to wake up. Plus, it's a miserable feeling. The left sidebar on your chart suggests your humidifier is on and set to 4. I'm not sure if raising it a little at a time would make a difference, but doesn't hurt to try. Others might suggest using some mouth tape with a full face mask.

RE: New user - dry mouth with FF
My attempts to raise humidity have not helped the extremely dry mouth I wake with due to mouth breathing in my full face F20 mask. Raising the humidity level caused water to form in my mask and tube and did not relief mouth dryness.
Some use tape over their mouth to prevent mouth breathing. There are many types/brands available. I found PapMd and Cover-Roll stretch tape to be two that will keep my mouth closed during sleep. Unfortunately, I even get a very dry mouth with tape applied. BioTene and Xymelts were not effective for me. Hopefully, you will find a solution, possibly taping. For me, it has been 15 years of waking with an extremely dry mouth.
I only give suggestions from experience as a fellow CPAP user, not professional advice.

Thanks for both of your replies.
My ResMed does not currently have a humidifier installed despite the reporting in OSCAR. Sounds like buying the humidAir tank and / or a heated tube may not be of much help with dry mouth if mouth breathing is the cause. I'll take on board your suggestion of mouth tape and see how I get on. Still early days so lots to take in. Appreciate the wisdom of established members of the forum, thanks.

RE: New user - dry mouth with FF
Just a point on mouth taping from my own experience. I found that often after 3 or 3 hours of sleep, the tape would lose some of its seal, as saliva would work it's way through any weak points.(ex.corners of mouth).
The solution found was to do the "lips disappearing trick", ie roll your lips inward so your lips are not visible, before fixing the tape. This I found really greatly improves the job. |
