RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS
Sorry to ask, but what's the lowdown for someone desperate to get a Dreamstation ASV out of pocket right now? Are refurbished or updated units starting to be sent out to people and suppliers? Should I just risk getting scammed on craigslist and change out the foam myself?

I've not purchased from them, but Supplier #2 (SecondWind) has been mentioned previously as a supplier. Noticing that you're from Canada reminds me of a recent person from Canada who purchased from them without country issues. You could try searching for that/those members to privately PM them for further details. Obviously, purchasing from a reseller with a lengthy history provides significantly more credibility over Craigslist. If you do consider the private personal market then instead of Craigslist, consider the Facebook Marketplace CPAP section(s) that have sometimes been mentioned. At least you can study the histories of those sellers. Just a thought. No endorsements of any seller is indicated in this advice. If I were in your shoes, I'd also consider contacting some smaller CPAP retailers, or large CPAP online resellers, and mention that you're a purchaser without insurance assistance that is looking for the best price possible. Large online retailers want volume sales over per-item profit. Small CPAP retailers want to minimize overhead, get rid of old inventory, etc. They may have returned units with zero or low milage. Walk in to a retailer ready to purchase with prescription and ask for the owner or store manager rather than just an advisor. They're all used to selling to those with significant insurance subsidies so they may not be very accommodating. You'll also get a small warranty guarantee probably, along with an official receipt that might be able to be used as a tax deduction for some. Also, purchasing privately may negate the ability to possibly use the medical device as personal medical tax deduction, is such a thing does exist for you, so having a receipt can help. One thing about Craigslist, there are usually many sellers who purchased their equipment with 100% insurance subsidy, used it for a minimal amount of time as didn't like CPAP, then wanting to resell it for personal profit. Purchasing privately does present many issues (stolen equipment, defective equipment, unclean equipment, etc.). Good luck with your search. P.S. Consider a ResMed AirCurve ASV. That's only a personal opinion. In watching the many news reports on Philips over the past 18-24 months, the Philips brand name lacks credibility, long-term quality, integrity, safety standards, corporate trust, etc., in my personal opinion based on following all the available news research over the past 2 years. Also, the DreamStation 1, by airflow design, made the impact on foam worse (if I'm not mistaken). Let's face it, there's also the possibility that Philips' replacement foam (long-term) will be problematic. On the other hand, many don't like the new DS2 and continue to use their defoamed (or replacement foamed) DS1. There are many comments in this lengthy thread that might present you with additional information. Philips is #1 at establishing partnerships with medical clinics, doctors and suppliers. They have a vast marketing and sales staff and always look for any ways to incentify medical professionals and advisors. They'll give away free units, demo units, literature, accessory supplies, training, etc., all to get brand endorsement. (Philips was recently found liable for providing financial kickbacks and releasing patient medical information directly to prospective resellers). Most clinics say "they're equal" but their opinion (in my opinion) is significantly biased. For the clinics that I visited, they had a wall or room full of Philips units (demo, returns, volume inventory, etc.). They always swayed me to buy Philips, as Philips (at the very least) made it 'much easier' for them to sell Philips. Philips does the same with Dentists, Hospital Administrators, etc.

MASTER SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT
The 1998 Master Settlement Agreement between the major tobacco companies, 46 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories transformed tobacco control. In the largest civil litigation settlement in U.S. history, the states and territories scored a victory that resulted in the tobacco companies paying the states and territories 246 billion dollars over 25 yearly installments. The money served as compensation for taxpayer money that had been spent in connection with tobacco-related diseases and the loss to local economies. For its part, the tobacco industry has managed to weather the settlement fairly well. New products like smokeless tobacco and electronic cigarettes and of course legal marijuana distribution have put many companies on the road to big sales. When you are supplying the most widely used addictive product in the world, you have certain advantages. Their cash flows remain enormous. In 1999 The Justice Department closed all criminal investigations. After all this time, could this be a similar fate that awaits Philips, JUST HOW MUCH MONEY?? After spending over a year and a half posting the latest news stories and expecting some form of real Justice to happen. I now understand that this will all come down to how much money Philips can be found liable for. This is what history has taught us. THE END

Hey man, the executive "management" team was unaware of the toxic foam problems until early 2021 so the company is off the hook....right? Just a few rogue actors gone awry.

Class Action Lawfirm Interview
For those interested in the legal aspects of the Philips Faulty CPAP Class Actions, this is an interesting video 'interview'. It's definitely biased, not independent, as it's from the perspective of one of the leading law firms involved. It's a summary of where they're at, their strategy, and where they're going - along with one of the sample cases to be put before the judge.
Jump to the 14min mark to skip the preamble. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Tuh9xvXkMk https://insiderexclusive.com/justice-in-...l-devices/ (*) There certainly seem to be more than a few cases of individuals beginning their CPAP therapy with a faulty recalled Philips DreamStation, then later utilizing SoClean, then developing serious health issues. No doubt Philips' lawyers will claim coincidence and other underlying undiagnoised health issues, along with using its self-managed, self-directed, 'independent' laboratory tests as evidence. *[Producer] "We are the nation’s leading independent Legal Issues Film Producers, with more than 100 titles in all areas of law."

RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS
Just before Christmas, when all through the house, not a person within was disturbed by a non-doorbell-ringing louse.
I took the critter out to pee and what pray tell did my wandering eye see? By the door for every porch-poacher to spy, was a box delivered for me. OH MY! Months of waiting for a solution to be proffered were followed by months of aggravation by incompetence offered. Of a shipment notification there was no recall. It was sent just 16 minutes prior, after all. A new DS2 was included within and briefly perused without even a grin. Upon the shelf it was placed with the years of spares for the DS1 that will now go to waste. Inside the package another pristine box was found. Surely, this is for wrapping that last gift lying around. After time passed, I did ponder, where did that original OSA device wander. The Philips Resmstar Plus was received over a decade prior. Surely this device would garner no recall ire. To the website I did navigate and input the serial number per instruction dictate. Well what do you know, to my surprise, that devise too may play a role in my demise. The evidence against them they desire to gather. I cannot tolerate any more of their blather. As such, their request for my device to help them abate will be met with my best wishes for them to self-fornicate. While this attempt at a poem might be cute, I find Philips worthy only of ill repute.

RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS
Someone on a FB recall group (Philips CPAP Recall Support Group) posted a picture of a DS Go and indicated that it was a recall replacement.
That's the first DS Go replacement that I've seen/heard of on either an apnea forum or social media. I don't know if anyone else has heard of one? Edited to add: The FB author said that it IS a replacement for a registered DS Go and that it appeared to be manufactured in Sept 2022. As an owner of registered DS Go, this appears to be good news. My DS Go status for MONTHS has been: "Update on your order Thank you for providing your information. Your durable medical equipment provider will provide you with your replacement device as soon as they receive it from Philips."

And...to put a large damper on my enthusiasm about the DS Go replacement. The person that posted on FB about it lives in Australia. Oh well...happy for them!

RE: RECALL THREAD-- IMPORTANT PHILIPS DREAMSTATION & SYSTEM ONE USERS
We are now two for three ... wife received a replacement today. Refurbished DS One.
Unlike my own, replaced in September 2022, a brand new DS Two. Not terrific at all. Now we have to continue with two different sets of backup parts and supplies as well. At this point, it's only my DS Go waiting for a replacement, refund or screw me letter. I'd be willing to take 50 cents on the dollar from these guys. Anything besides silence. |
