Update: I just followed the steps as above, and the file matched the checksum.

i an not smart enough to do what you said, but checksum did match with the Linux app I downloaded. So I feel confident it is not the file, it is something on the HP laptop or Windows 11.
RE: Unable to install OSCAR on a Windows 11 laptop
I'll try to provide you the exact steps for Linux.
- Open your file viewer (Nemo).
- In your home directory, right-click out in the white area on the right, and select Create New Folder.
- Name it something simple like, "test".
- Go to https://www.sleepfiles.com/OSCAR/, and select the version you wish to install.
- Navigate to the directory you created in the above steps, and save the file to that location.
- While still in the OSCAR Download site, select Documents.
- Right-click on the last line labeled, SHA256 Checksums for all installers, and select Save Link As
- Select the directory from above as the save location.
- Using your file viewer, enter the directory containing the OSCAR install file and the checksum file.
- Right-click and select Open in Terminal.
- Copy the following:
sha256sum --check --ignore-missing OSCAR-1.5.3-checksums.txt
- In the terminal window, paste the above command. (Either right-click and select "Paste" or Shift+Ctrl+V).
- This should give you either an "OK", or "Fail" result.
If it does not match, you have problems with your internet connection.

My problem is with Windows 11 on an HP Zbook laptop. I installed it on Linux Mint 21 tonight and have been running it on Windows 10 for a month or more without any problems.
RE: Unable to install OSCAR on a Windows 11 laptop
Is it the signature? Windows 10 complains about the source signature but allows you to override and install anyway. Is Windows 11 more picky?

I have no idea. When I select to install the exe file, the mouse turns to the hour glass for a second, then turns to the normal arrow. Does that for either the 32 or 64 version. I get no explanation of why it will not install. Is there a log file somewhere that may explain what is happening?
RE: Unable to install OSCAR on a Windows 11 laptop
I Googled the phrase, "
Windows 11 will not let me install an app" and found Windows 11 has an S mode. This means it will only allow apps from their store to be installed if this "feature" is activated.
The following articles seem to best offer the best description on turning it off:
https://www.techbout.com/switch-off-s-mo...-11-71395/
https://helpcenter.trendmicro.com/en-us/...tmka-19191
The only other thought that comes to mind, is to try to install in a Win10 compatibility mode setting.
I am hoping that this may be your problem.

Windows 8 is the latest compatibility I can select from. I tried to follow the other two and I do not have the Mode S option they talk about. For now I will just be happy with OSCAR on my desktop and Linux Mint laptop.
I have installed other non MS store software without issue.
RE: Unable to install OSCAR on a Windows 11 laptop
I found another way to verify that my Windows 11 Pro is not in S mode, so it is something else that is preventing the install. Thanks for all the help.
Old Versions of OSCAR
Is there a site where one can download older versions of OSCAR? Since I am unable to install the latest on my Windows 11 Pro laptop, I would like to try an older version.
RE: Old Versions of OSCAR
What version are you wanting? They are version specific archived.
