I just tried to install OSCAR on my Linux Mint 19 PC.
Unfortunately the installation did not work and kind of messed up my system.
I can not perfom updates of my Linux anymore, I get the following error message when starting the update manager:
Could not refresh the list of updates. The package oscar needs to be reinstalled but I can't find an archive for it.
It is even worse. I wanted to use the Synaptic package manager to remove the package but I can not open it anymore, I get the following error: E: The package oscar needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it. E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report.
I am clueless any would appreciate some help to get my system back working.
I'm sorry you are having trouble installing and removing the oscar package; it is my first attempt at a Debian package, and I did not follow the standard Debian procedures. Perhaps some of my shortcuts should be revised.
the oscar package is not in any archive, so it must be installed and removed using dpkg; further, because of the way the control files are written, dpkg must be run sudo from a user account, and not as a root user.
To get your system cleaned up, and to help others who may have this problem, let's start by doing - from your user account:
sudo dpkg -r oscar
You will undoubted get error messages about missing files and perhaps other errors - please copy and paste them in a new reply here, and we will get you sorted out.

Are you using Snapshot? If so, you could go back to a time/date prior to OSCAR's install. Before that, try performing a "sudo apt-get install libqt5serialport5".

sudo dpkg -i oscar... the full filename, wherever you saved it
and report back whatever errors it reports

Try coping the following command line. If your system has the file it will be ignored.
sudo apt-get install gtkhash libb2-1 libqt5opengl5 libqt5serialport5 libqt5printsupport5 libqt5xml5
You will have to create a Quick Launch shortcut on your desktop. If you are unfamiliar with this, right-click anywhere on an open area of your desktop. The 5th option from the top is labeled, "+ Create a new launcher here. . .", select it. In the Command box either enter or navigate to the /usr/bin/oscar link. Of course the Name box is a no-brainer.

Sorry for so many individual posts but I still have a problem.
OSCAR does not recognize my Pulox 400. When I scan for devices it is not detected...
I am nearly there, so it would be great if you could let me know what you think might make this work.
P.S.: I am sure I am using the right cable. It works on my wife's Windows PC.
