Oscar 1.6.0 problem
#31
RE: Oscar 1.6.0 problem
Something seems corrupt. Rename the OSCAR_Data folder to something like OSCAR_Data.bak. Start OSCAR. It will see that the data folder does not exist and will want to create a new one. Let it go through this process and see is it will allow you to create a profile when it finishes. Keep proceeding as far as it will allow. This includes importing data to the new profile. Let me know how far you get.

RE: Oscar 1.6.0 problem
No changes except:

The OSCAR_Data follder has ben created under C:

That folder contains:
  1. logs = folder
  2. Profiles = folder
  3. Preferences.xml

I deleted all files & folders related to OSCAR and all registry entries.
I kept only past data (logs)
I reinstalled OSCAR.
Problem still there ?????

Don't know what to do next ????

I did follow your last request.

DONE = Rename the OSCAR_Data folder to something like OSCAR_Data.bak.

DONE = Start OSCAR. It will see that the data folder does not exist and will want to create a new one. Let it go through this process and see is it will allow you to create a profile when it finishes.

DONEKeep proceeding as far as it will allow. This includes importing data to the new profile.

My previous post are the results obtained !!!!!!!!

Do you have what is required to take control of remote PC and work on it.

If so, I would let you work on my laptop.

"I deleted all files & folders related to OSCAR and all registry entries."  Where did I say perform that?

OK, I created a VM version of Win11 to see what surprises it has in-store for the user. By default, Windows 11 makes the OSCAR_Data folder a "Read-only" directory. In File Explorer, right-click on the C:\OSCAR_Data folder and select the Properties option.  At the bottom of this popup window is an Attributes section.  Make sure the Read-only option is not selected.  Mine was blue with a hash mark in the box.  Press either Apply or OK.  If you pressed Apply, you will need to press OK afterward.  Try running OSCAR, now.  We may have to add a user entry, but it seemed to operate without that on mine.

Did exactly the procedure described in your last post.

Immidiately after I got the OK, I rechecked the folder properties and the Read Only attribute was back on  ????

No changes to OSCAR.

I cannot get that attribute to stay Unchecked ????

Yes, I did run OSCAR after the procedure and there was no change in OSCAR behaviour.
I will try to change the attribute again and reboot the laptop to see if it stays unchecked.

RE: Oscar 1.6.0 problem
OK, Plan B. . .
  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Right-click on the C:\OSCAR_Data folder.
  3. Select > Properties (or Alt+Enter on W11).
  4. Verify the Read-only is not selected. If it is, deselect it (again).
  5. Click on the Security Tab.
  6. Select > Edit, then Add...
  7. In the Enter box, type: EVERYONE and then Enter.
  8. In PERMISSIONS, in the Allow column, select: Full Control.
  9. Press OK until you exit this menu.
Try OSCAR now.

RE: Oscar 1.6.0 problem
Procedure done.

Closed properties window.
Started OSCAR.
Problem is still there.
Reoppened properties window for OSCAR_Data folder

See for yourself:

Tried to get the properties to stay unchecked, it will not ????

Quote:While searching internet for info, I found this about the property thing that will not stay unchecked:
If so, that's perfectly normal, meaningless, and has always been that way in Windows (at least since Windows 7). This will not cause any issues.
