PAP machine for travel

Hello,

I recently (about 5 weeks now) starting using the Aircurve 10ST that was prescribed by my Dr.  Pressure is 14/9 with backup rate of 12.  In reviewing the stats from Oscar and Res-scan, I am not sure how often the backup breaths are used.

We travel often and, over the years, have spent considerable effort to limit what we take on trips and do everything in carry-ons. If I need to take the Aircurve, then I will.  But, I am curious, if I might be able to utilize the AirMini (or other travel machines).  I realize that it wont have the backup rate and the Pressure Support will be less than what I get now as it's limited to a max of 3 EPR.  

I realize that there are not any true 'travel' BiPAP units.  I am trying to understand if I tried the AirMini and set it to either 14 with EPR 3, or 12 with EPR 3, if I could get close to the same therapy that I receive with the AirCurve and would it be effective 'enough' for a short amount of time (say, a week, or so).

Most airlines don't count medical equipment such as a CPAP machine as part of your carry-on allowance. You can also get a letter from your doctor advising that it is necessary medical equipment to show any passenger service agents if they're not familiar with it.

I always take mine with me as a carryon that does not count against my limit. NEVER check your CPAP/BiPAP.

I don't think any travel device will substitute for your ST. Travel units don't have backup rate, as best as I'm aware, and I'd not recommend it. Realistically, your therapy might be OK on the travel unit, but more likely it'll be much worse, but be certain it will not be identical.

Just carry your ST in its case into the plane, if air traveling. You might want to tag the bag as medical equipment, making it exempt. Just keep actual PAP equipment in it.

Thanks for the responses. I was more curious about the efficacy of the treatment and it does not sound like it's an option. So, I'll just take the AirCurve along. Was hoping to find a less bulky option.
