Help with optimal settings on my ResMed AirCurve 10 VAUTO (using Swift LT Nasal Pilw)
Hello All,

I am new to the cpap game, and would like any and all help getting all of the settings on my ResMed Aircurve 10 VAUTO machine optimal (or at least a good range as a starting point) based on a recent three night home sleep study I did through my dentist. I've attached the main sheet from the sleep study, but there are individual sheets for each night if more detail is required by anyone. FYI, I have Swift LT Nasal Pillow System, and I have yet to use the machine for a full night.

As well, I've learned recently of the practice of taping one's mouth shut at night, so as to only breath through the nose. I used that method for some of the nights as noted here: first night I didn't use any tape on my mouth, the second night I did use tape on my mouth, and the third night I used tape on my mouth along with a HEB brand breathe-right strip on my nose.

Also, the sleep machine recorded me as sleeping most of the night for the second night, which according to the results was my best night regarding how well I slept, the fewest incidents, etc. However, I remember not being able to sleep the majority of that night (probably only ended up getting 2-3 hours total), but I didn't actually get up out of bed, I just laid in bed. So I would say there was a defect with the machine detecting when I was actually asleep versus when I was awake. That being said, I almost think we should just disregard the results from the second night, as I was awake most of that night and breathing regularly through my nose. For the first and third nights my sleep was also bit choppy (again, I just laid in bed without getting up), but not near as bad as the second night, so I think those results are more representative of my normal sleep.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, as I can get into the clinical settings, but all of this is Greek to me, hence why I'm on this board. My main symptoms are waking up feeling tired everyday, and being sleepy throughout the day.

Thank you,

-Tim

Welcome. As a new member you will need over 4 posts to link to files, but you can make them available by including a space in the address like h ttp:// xxx. Anyway, the link you tried to include was auto-deleted as a spam preventive measure. Try again, and that will help your post count as well.

I'm curious whay you have an Aircurve 10 Vauto. That is a bilevel machine rather than a CPAP or Auto CPAP, and it's not very common for new users to be issued a bilevel to start. The Aircurve 10 will let you set a minimum EPAP (exhale pressure), pressure support (PS) and maximum IPAP (inhale pressure). It can also operate in CPAP mode and fixed bilevel mode. I use the same machine, and would be glad to help. It kind of sounds like we're starting from scratch with no prior CPAP use?

Thanks sleeprider!!! I will look to use your suggestion and attach the chart, but not sure if it will work. For tonight, if you could give me an idea of a general settings (EPAP, IPAP and PS) in vauto mode (which is the same mode I plan on using ongoing), that'll at least get me going with the machine tonight.

Definitely starting from scratch. I got the machine from a friend who was diagnosed with sleep apnea, but never really used it. Two people in my family use cpap machines, so I was able to score the new SWIFT LT setup from them.

Thank you!

Basic Auto CPAP settings would be
Min EPAP 6cm
Max IPAP 20cm
PS 0

This will allow you to get a basic titration initially. This is the equivalent of an AutoSet at a range of 6-20 with an EPR of 0.
After you/we see a night of data I'm sure changes will be recommended.

Thanks, Fred!

Did the attachment come through on that last attempt?

As far as the data, are you referring to the sleep study info I referenced before, or are their other ways I should be capturing data. Again, my apologies, as I'm a total newbie.

You are appreciated!

Tim, your membership status has upgraded to "member" and you should be able to post attachments and links. I recommend you use Imgur to link an image because attachment space is very limited. See instructions in link 2 in my signature.

Hello Sleeprider,

I went to Imgur on my iPad, and the setup page is totally different than the instructions via the link in your signature. I attempted to post my sleep study info, but couldn't figure it out.  If you don't have other suggestions, perhaps later I will try to bring it up on a pc and see if the setup page is any different versus what it was on my iPad.

I used your recommendations last night and did ok, but according to my sleep report I had 13.5 events per hour. Based on that are there any setting adjustments I can make to get that number down...preferably to 0 events?

Thanks!

Thanks Trish6hundred

Actually, sleeprider, I used Fred's/bonjour's recommendations last night. Any suggestions on changes by anyone would be helpful. And I can just list out my sleep study results if necessary, so just let me know what the pertinent info to post would be and I can do that.

It's unfortunate that the image size is limited, as I could easily just take a picture of the report and post it that way, but when I do that the image is too big.

Peace!
