Thanks to everyone who has been posting in this thread. Reading your stories has given me hope that I will, one day, also be in a better spot and able to post a success story.

RE: Your Personal CPAP Success Story - Post Here
Hi All
I am a newby to all this. My wife has been prodding me to keep breathing for years at night. I had a sleep study done in the lab at the royal brisbane hospital Queensland Australia. I seemed to get worse after the study and was sleeping longer and longer and still falling asleep during the day. I had not been back for the results or the review but I ordered a resmed s10 autoset and started using it. wow what a differance. Even the first night with mask leaks of 40lt I still had a much better sleep than before. I used it for 5 days and then had my review. The doctor said I had very severe sleep apnea 89 events per hour. He looked at the sd card from the machine and told me it was all good. I am down to 0.5 events per hour and some nights 0 events So much happier now.

I'm so very excited to share that last night was the first night I was able to wear my mask through the night! This may seem like a small win (or completely un-newsworthy) to a lot of people, but this been years in the making. I have mild-to-moderate sleep apnea (28 AHI, with centrals) and have come so close to just giving up on treatment because the nonstop treatment-worsened centrals are simply unbearable. I've had 3 sleep doctors, performed 5 sleep tests, and bought 2 machines. I eventually found a fantastic doctor (who finally got me an ASV) and found this wonderful website. Because of this website (especially SleepRider), I was finally able to find settings to help me get through the night. I'm so excited that I can start gathering useful data, and I look forward to posting my numbers to help get dialed in. I've finally won a battle, and hope that this marks the turning of this war.

Welcome SleeperDude. Congrats on the win! We have many members using ASV and there may be some ways we can dial in your comfort if you start a therapy thread.

First, I want to apologize for using the translator.
After several years of use, I can consider myself a veteran. I went through many phases, including: Spending hours analyzing data from OSCAR sessions (excellent hobby! ); Adjust and adjust the tightness of the mask, until she looses her grip ; Switching from facial to nasal mask (it worked!); Manufacture my own filters, using the support of those already used... Mention of praise was trusting that Philips would comply with the recall of respironics, due to gas emission problems. She really fulfilled her promise and replaced both of my devices with new ones. Note that I had not so many problems with apnea, except that my wife had already presented me with a divorce letter because of my loud snoring. Today, we sleep in separate rooms and I no longer have that problem. But sometimes, when I'm low on sleep, I feel like my own snoring keeps me from falling asleep. So, I resort to the old CPAP, which, I guarantee, you will get used to, if you persist. And take things in stride. You can ever change the maximum and minimum pressures (if your CPAP allows it) until you find the ideal setting for your sleep. For me these adjustments were a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 9.5 cmh2O. After this maximum, I can't live with the pressure coming out of all the holes in my head (four, according to Caetano Veloso - Check YouTube to see this extraordinary Brazilian singer). In these ocasions, I wake up with a dry mouth, not knowing if the CPAP is bothering me or saving me from a hyper apnea death. I mean, I think it's an excellent machine, bat it can't make miracles! So, that's it, folks, CPAP is a medicine, but also great fun, like a game. It was good to find such an interesting support group. I hope everyone has success, defining success with what gives you the most pleasure in sleeping. |
