I was an early adopter of the F40 and still use it, occasionally.  I have similar observations about leakage increasing after a week or two.  I was usually able to resolve leaks with slight headgear adjustments and the overall comfort of the mask justified staying with it.

I can only use the f40 for a few days before my right nostril gets irritated by high velocity air impinging on my septum.  I had similar issues when I tried a P10 pillows mask.  I’ve tried all the nipple cremes and ointments recommended on this forum but they aren’t working for me.

My fall back mask is still the F20 Airtouch.  From my experience adjusting the F40 headgear, I’ve learned to keep my F20 headgear looser than I used to.  The leakage rate is still consistently better than the F40.  The F40 is a lot more comfortable, though, so every few weeks I give it another try, hoping my nostrils will be more tolerant.  That lasts two or three days.

That’s been my experience.

I totally feel the "wear out" after a week or two, but my replacement schedule is 1x per month. I want to write ResMed about this! My DME provider says since it is a FFM, it is once per month. I argue that it should be more on the nasal pillow schedule of every two weeks.


I luckily have had not skin/nostril irritation, just annoyances from slippage.

Gonna tighten things up tonight and see how it goes.

My only issue with the mask is the straps seem to stretch with use. By the end of the month I have moved the velcro straps several inches. The mask itself is fine for me well over the 30 days recommended.

I added a cover to my F40 cushion. I don't have to draw straps as tight to get a seal and the cushion stays oil free...finally! The fabric cover I tried for the F20 caused leaks, the one for F40 reduces them. I am not noticing the loss of the cushion's elasticity over time as much with the cover installed. The covers' instructions say to change them once a week. They last much longer than a week.

make it yourself , get a piece of micro fiber ( Walmart Auto Section ) like 6.00 bucks for 10 sheets 
take off the cushion from frame , drape the microfiber over cushion cut the 2 holes where needed 
secure it over cushion with velcro (Amazon ) 1 inch roll 7 bucks ...

Silent Night is the name of the brand of cover.  It is available at most online CPAP supply stores.  I don't think I can mention their names here.  I ruined the first one trying to install it too tightly to the mask.
