Resmed S9 Autoset Humidifier question

Resmed S9 Autoset Humidifier question
I realize the importance of cleaning mask and hoses, but do you need to remove the humidifier water tray and clean that every night as well? I feel like I'm throwing out most of the distilled water each morning. Distilled water cheap, but have to go out and buy bottles of it. I don't want to risk any health issues but I'm curious what others do. Thanks

RE: Resmed S9 Autoset Humidifier question
Daso, You will get a heap of different answers, I empty mine twice a week when I wash everything and just top up the other night.
I haven't had any illness's in the 4 years that I have been using my CPAP.
Some do it everynight, there is no correct anwer, just personal preference.

While this thread has a different topic name, it contains a lot of what you're asking.

I've been on XPAP since 2008 and have never used distilled water. Water that is evaporated from the tray is distilled by definition. What is left behind may contain trace minerals and components of tap water. There has never been a documented case of illness from using purified, disinfected municipal water in a humidifier. Nothing comes in contact with the water but the air from the room where you sleep, and that likely has more pathogens than the tap water.

Some water supplies might contain excessive minerals or odors to be suitable for this use, but feel free to toss your money down the drain in any way that suits you. A quick rinse and refill, and you're good to go. If you see any deposits, clean them.
