Sounds like they are only offering the original warranty coverage if the replacement is only good for 90 days, since the original warranty would have been done in November.
That's not totally unusual for a no-charge item replacement near the end of warranty.
Too many people play games and intentionally cause failures to keep pushing replacement item warranties and it's ruined it for everyone.
