RE: Weight Loss
After 6 months of tweaking my settings, my AHI (Apnea Hypopnea Index) went down from 84 to <5 with Auto Bilevel CPAP, yet I only felt marginally more awake during the day. In my case, there was a medical confound: Diabetes Type II. My fasting blood glucose was 140-150 instead of the expected <100. There could be other complicating issues at play for you.

RE: Weight Loss
Harmon, I lost 30 pounds and went from not needing a cpap to needing two naps a day. If you are young person (i.e. under 35), there is some chance that your structures inside will tighten up. It could be internal flab that has worsened your situation. At my age, that ain't gonna happen.

Don't beat yourself up over it. It's just the way things are. There are a lot of people who go without treatment because they don't fit the profile. Someone of ANY weight can have apnea. Also, as mentioned, you could have complicating factors. Mine include worsening diabetes as well as a slow heart rate.
