Odd breathing patterns
I'm wondering if anyone could give me info about the way I'm breathing. I'm a new CPAP user, 18 nights, and new to reading Oscar data but it looks like my expirations are very shallow, almost non-existent even. I've been increasing my pressure, was started at 7 and have increased to 10. It's gotten somewhat better but still happening quite a lot. I'm wondering why this is happening and what can be done about it. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi katbrat! -
Since you're using a P10, I would speculate that you're breathing out through your mouth. - Red

I would be but I tape my mouth so no leaking happening there.
I was just now studying Oscar and learned that it could be palatal prolapse.

RE: Odd breathing patterns
No the tape definitely doesn't leak. I'll try to figure out how to post what you've asked for. Thank you

RE: Odd breathing patterns
I think this may be what you're asking to see? I've been having clusters of apneas but have ordered a soft cervical collar to try to remedy that if it's being caused from my chin dropping down. I estimate the amount of time I'm showing palatal prolapse type breaths is about 1/3 of the time. It's less now that my pressure has been increased so I was also wondering if another increase might help it.

RE: Odd breathing patterns
Indeed, midnight you had positional apnea. Also, you observed palatal prolapse for 1/3 of your sleeping time, whci is significant.
Pressure increases can mitigate neither of them. Palatal prolapse can also be position-dependent; hence, try to sleep strictly on your side and turn your head as face down as possible. You can also find reports on this forum about Alaxo Nasal Airway Stents, which are the best remedy without surgery.

Considering your posted flow rate curve, it does not appear that you have palatal proposals about 1/3 of the time. It is about 1/10 or even less. But some higher-resolution flow rate shots all over the night could clarify it.

RE: Odd breathing patterns
Yeah, looks like palatal prolapse.
RE: Odd breathing patterns
I have what appears to be at least a partial palatal prolapse much of the night, as well as several of the regular ones.
This one goes up through 22:57 This one goes to 02:13 Then there are several shorter segments like this (09-07-2024, 08:20 PM)CPAPfriend Wrote: Yeah, looks like palatal prolapse. Yes, I think so too. I follow you on youtube! |
