Actually, that's not a lot of hours. The machine is definitely old, for sure and could fail. But at 8 hours/night x 365 days a year = 2920 hours per year. So that 5372 hours is not quite 2 years of nightly use.

A lot of folks love that machine, yep.
And that's assuming that he needs the S/T functionality that was on his original machine. Which is probably why you need to ask those questions of the doc who gave him the script from this past year. I'm surprised it was so "sparse", stating only the IPAP and EPAP levels and nothing else to indicate the S/T settings.

And also, there seems to be a discrepancy between the doc's script and what the Bi-level is set up at in the picture.
The doc's script says 11 EPAP & 19 IPAP, and the machine in the picture shows it's set at 15 and 19.
Maybe that's a very old pic using an old script.

RE: Dad's Cpap Machine Died
The old machine was a BiPAP ST with 19/15 (IPAP/EPAP) and a backup rate of 12 breaths per minute. In spite of your "great social benefits" it's been my observation that our Canadian members have a great deal of difficulty obtaining anything but CPAP, and often with long delays. The machines you are imaging are all over 15 years old, and some are over 20. You could buy a relatively new Resmed Aircurve 10 ST on DotMed website for a pretty reasonable price if you find you are unable to acquire an appropriate ST Bilevel through your health services.
