Sleep Drs and DMEs
#11
RE: Sleep Drs and DMEs
My sleep doc was also acting as my DME. That worked fine until I went from a commercial insurance policy to a medicare replacement. Medicare has a rule that the doctor can't act as a DME under their rules. So after 3 months of rental, the doc had to write off my CPAP because my replacement policy denied any payment under the medicare rule and claimed that I wasn't liable for the balance.

That made for a hardship for you but I like that Medicare rule. They ought to have another one, if they do not already, that the doctor can not be part of the group doing the polysomnography and that the PSG group can not act as DME for a patient they tested.

Just my thoughts.

I agree 100%. Gets rid of the conflict of interest.
