Surely that included the CPAP machine and a lifetime supply of advice?

It was a few years back but I am pretty sure the cost of the study I had was around AU$800 to the Medical Insurer.

Then the Specialist was another ~AU$500 for 2 consultations and ~AU$2500 for machine and mask.

Hi PhxBear, First, WELCOME! to the forum.! I think the price (that was charged to insurance,) of my sleep study was around $2500. Hopefully you are able to get a sleep study to find out what's going on, best of luck.

Back in 2004, mine was a split-night study and they billed insurance something like $1300 if I remember correctly (which included my portion of the bill).

Pretty sure the average cost of an overnight sleep study in a fully equipped lab vary tremendously, but the average is going to be around a $1500-2000 range, I think.

There are some home sleep studies that don't provide as much diagnostic data, but are useful in determining whether or not you have sleep apnea. Those home studies are probably closer to $500-800 on average.

Of course... all this varies on where you're located and how much and what type of equipment the lab has - the more up-to-date and high-end lab equipment, the more the cost.

The best way to find out is call a local sleep lab and ask them what is their price for a full overnight sleep study.

Keep in mind that while it's usually not the best course of action, some doctors (if convinced that you have OSA), might skip the sleep study (or the titration portion) and then prescribe an auto-CPAP machine, which will adjust your pressure to your ongoing needs, thus eliminating the titration portion of the overnight sleep study altogether. The titration is the part of the sleep study that is used to determine the proper pressure that will stop the majority of apnea events.

If you have financial problems, that might be one way to reduce costs, if the doctor is convinced you have sleep apnea. If that's the route you choose to go, make sure you get a newer data-reporting auto-CPAP [like the PR System One REMstar Auto or the ResMed S9 AutoSet] and use the software that goes with it (like ResScan or SleepyHead), so you can monitor your ongoing progress. The only problem with not getting a complete overnight sleep study is that you may have other sleep issues that will remain undiagnosed or undiscovered. That's why the sleep study is recommended if at all possible - it's not just to see if you have sleep apnea - it can be used to discover all sorts of sleep disorders.

The sleep lab billed my insurance $3000. My insurance allowed $2000 and paid $1700. My share was $300. It was scheduled as a split study but I didn't sleep long enough to complete the titration. My doctor offered me a choice of an auto-CPAP or scheduling a titration study. I chose the auto-CPAP.

I just got to thinking; ) since I had to go back twice because during the first study, I didn't get to sleep in time and the second one was with the CPAP to adjust it for my pressure setting. Anyway, my sleep studies probably cost more than $2500.00 but I'm not really sure.
