It blew at a high speed and I immediately knew what I did. I shut it off, flipped the motor and all was fine. I never saw a code. But it was only on for 20 seconds or so.

THIS !!!

I took the machine apart again and checked out my installation. I found that I, too, had put the motor in backwards. It's an easy mistake to make, I guess!

Anyway, now that the motor is placed correctly, it's working perfectly and I have no "fault message" anymore.

Incidentally, this is the generic replacement motor/blower that I installed, which cost $92.99 on Amazon:

Amazon.com: VORGENS Motor Blower Motor Pump for CPAP Compatible with Airsense 10 & S9/S10 Serious : Health & Household

Hoping it lasts for a good while. I am still going to make an appointment with a sleep doctor so that I can get a valid prescription for a new machine, and then this 6.5-year old baby will be a back-up or possibly my travel machine. [It would be nice to have a machine all packed up with its own accessories ready to go!)

Thanks all for the kind advice. Looking forward again to a good night's sleep.  Wink

Very nice! Good sleuthing!  I've replaced two motors on resmed machines now (using the same one you did from Amazon)-haven't installed it backwards but I can see how it could be done hahaha

Yes, the housing is symmetrical end-to-end, and the openings or ports on each end bear a family resemblance!  Grin
