Ear whistling - CPAP machine
Hi there,
A question, did anyone have ear whistling (ear ringing) after use of CPAP machine for some time? Is this one of the side effect of CPAP machine?
I am having ear whistling issue after CPAP machine usage. It might be coincident but would like to know if anyone else felt the same way.
Thanks in advance
RE: Ear whistling - CPAP machine
Yup. Not so much whistling with me as whooshing. I wake feeling like I just spent a few hours in a very loud concert hall.
Do you suffer blocked sinuses or similar? Do you have problems when descending in aircraft?
RE: Ear whistling - CPAP machine
Okay
I have sinuses but not sure about blocked sinuses (will google now). How to get it treated? I have deviated septum. Is this might be a contributor?
No, I do not remember this problem while descending in aircraft. It was like difference in pressure and taking long breath helped. (noted for next flight).
RE: Ear whistling - CPAP machine
I have never heard/read of CPAP use causing tinnitus. In my case it was caused by hearing loss due to exposure to gun fire. (arms training, Vietnam, competitive shooting - before hearing protection was common) This is part of what the Mayo Clinic web site says about it.
"Tinnitus is the perception of noise or ringing in the ears. A common problem, tinnitus affects about 15 to 20 percent of people. Tinnitus isn't a condition itself — it's a symptom of an underlying condition, such as age-related hearing loss, ear injury or a circulatory system disorder.Although bothersome, tinnitus usually isn't a sign of something serious. Although it can worsen with age, for many people, tinnitus can improve with treatment."
RE: Ear whistling - CPAP machine
I wonder if it's really tinnitus (that's a specific disorder linked to the auditory cortex, and is manifest by a persistent, invasive, and annoying high pitch, ringing, or series of 'scrape's and clicks0. Instead, could we be dealing with air passing through eustachian tubes? Even earwax could be the cause because air under pressure moving past it may cause it to vibrate at a frequency.
