[CPAP] Sensitive skin

Sensitive skin
Approx 15 years using CPAP's:  all masks leak; all masks irritate my very sensitive face.  Just ran into a person who says he uses Vaseline on his face to reduce mask leaks and irritation. This seems contrary to documented suggestions to wash off oils for more friction and better mask seal.  I thought about trying Aquaphor which my dermatologist has recommended to moisturize and protect my skin.  Current mask is AirTouch F20 which has memory foam cushions. Any thoughts or recommendations?

A mask liner may help.  I use them.  I like the thinner ones better than the thicker ones (they seem to seal better).  Most are made of cloth or some material like that.  No irritation.  Some of the suppliers here on the supplier's list have them.  Amazon, ebay, etc. also carry them.

A liner might be the best solution, but a close second would be a 'barrier cream.'  See your pharmacist...it's over the counter, not prescription...although it COULD be prescribed.  Wellskin brand, 'Barriere'.  I have used it for irritated skin, including pressure sores due to mask pressure or deviation when I am asleep.  Works very well for me, often just one or two days of use.
Like Brill Cream, a li'l dab'll do ya.

Try this product. I have used it for irritation. Bought it from amazon.

CPAP Gel Mask Leak Sealer

CPAP gel seals the mask eliminating irritating noises helping to restore your sleep.

[*]Creates a liquid like seal around the mask that stops air from escaping that causes irritating noises and unsafe air leaks.
[*]Reduces skin irritation and mask comfort by allowing the user to loosen the mask without jeopardizing the seal.
[*]CPAP gel is made up of all natural ingredientsincluding the healing powers of Aloe Vera
[*]Increases compliance by making the mask more comfortable and eliminating common complaints caused by the CPAP mask.

RE: Sensitive skin
I’m digesting all the great inputs with a note of appreciation and gratitude to all those who respond.

To Jay51 and mesenteria… yes, I’ve tried liners and probably need to try a variety of materials for a better seal than I’ve previously experienced… maybe thinner as you suggested… thanks.

To mesenteria and car54… I have to be very careful about alternative chemicals on my face per strict dermatologist orders. The sensitive skin I have is not related to the CPAP mask… it’s other stuff that I’ve been fighting for many years. I only asked about Aquaphor because I know I can tolerate that. The other suggestions may be great.. so, I’ll discuss with dermatologist at next visit.

My intent was exactly what you said that I expect that some thick liquid, cream, or gel could help seal the mask and allow looser straps. Your inputs suggest that something may work.. that’s just the advice I needed.

I may try the Aquaphor unless somebody can convince me not to.
