My CPAP machine is dead quiet silent. My Tinnitus is 24/7/365. I'm fortunate that I've become accustomed to it over the many years.
There's a clinic in Phoenix, AZ. that says they can treat it. I intend to go there one day and see what they can do for me. But, we don't make trips to Phoenix nearly as often as we used to. It's only about 90 miles or so away, but going there can be a hassle.
As far as white noise goes, I'm not aware of any that helps.

Like several here, I have tinnitus and mines is noise and vibration related. 20+ years of flying for Uncle Sam contributed a lot to it. Been on CPAP now for 9 years and the very slight machine noise reduces it at night. I also have hearing aids but they are to transfer sounds from by bad ear to my good ear. My ENT and I have a deal - if either of us comes up with a cure, we'll split the profits. And don't give up your day job. His opinion and most of the audiologists I know feel any "cure" for most tinnitus is actually a weight loss program for your wallet.

My audiologist said that everybody has Tinnitus, but most people either don't notice it or perceive it to be so low/intermittent that it doesn't bother them. However, when you have hearing loss, that tinnitus become much more noticeable. He said it isn't real noise but more like signal noise in electronics - it is actually generated in the ear and associated nerves. Just like electronics, this noise is usually buried by real signals but becomes a factor when the signal is weak.
That all sounds plausible, but I'm not sure how that aligns with the increase in tinnitus most sufferers experience after being in loud rooms or, in my case, after eight hours of APAP sinus inflation.

I don't know when I got tinnitus. I do remember tuning the TV at the age of 8 or so without looking at it, just by matching the sound of the out-of-sync horizontal hold on the TV. Didn't everyone hear that?

I know that I have some degree of hearing loss. My wife reminds me of it more than I like.
Supposedly, as you age, it (loss) becomes imminent. I do have hearing aids that I don't wear. They don't seem to help. More trouble than they're worth.
I don't recall having Tinnitus while in the military, 1974-1978. If I did, I wasn't aware. Riding m/c's all my life w/o using ear plugs didn't help much, I'm sure.

I have a friend, a fellow Safari Club member, who swears by the use of his 3M Peltor Electronic Hearing Protection to suppress noise and enhance speech while engaging in non-shooting activities.
Some versions even have Bluetooth connectivity. He claims, but I do not believe, it has a wife-suppression mode that is triggered by the words chores, work, pick-up, and trash.

I should wear mine more often. But between glasses and a mask, I am afraid of losing one of them.
