Abdulfakih - Therapy Thread
RE: Abdulfakih - Therapy Thread
I can't answer which mask. The one that works best and is most comfortable for you. A couple exercises to get better control over pressure with a nasal mask, are to practice talking with the mask. See if you can open your mouth and still control the pressure. Try sipping water or drinking through a straw and swallowing. These skills teach pressure control that can translate from the conscious to the sleep state as they become second nature.

Understood. Ultimately nasal is more confortable besides the fact that i wakeup from the air leaking on my mouth. Hence why i switched to the F40. Overall F40 is good, but again only for pressures below 9. I can try and practice that control, honeslty when I am awake is easy, but when I am asleep its a bit harder since I cant control it as easy...

It eventually becomes second nature and that subconscious control takes time and conditioning to master.

Hi sleeprider,

I have tried to adjust to asv with the nasal mask but it’s just too much. Last night I woke up about 5 times with a dry throat. Now I have a strong headache. My only option that isn’t really an option is to use the f40 with infinite leaks… not sure what to do now

Good morning again.

Is there anything i can do to reduce those leaks with the f40? what setting can i change to perhaps make that pressure fluctuation a bit less? i feel like I am so close but yet so far to figuring everything out

Normally, this would be the mask checklist:

Change cushion size finding the best for comfort and leak control

Adjust straps moderate, order of adjusting count, if it's too tight, it's not going to work well

As for settings, what are you running currently? No recent ASV mode chart shows what exactly you're running.

Hi dave

answering your questions;

Change cushion size finding the best for comfort and leak control; should i go bigger or smaller?

Adjust straps moderate, order of adjusting count, if it's too tight, it's not going to work well; this doesnt work, i have tried every configuration and it just leaks

As for settings, what are you running currently? No recent ASV mode chart shows what exactly you're running.:

As instructed by sleeprider:

Mode: ASVauto
EPAP min: 5.0
EPAP max: 8.0
PS min: 3.0
PS max 8.0

It may be a different mask is needed if you're still not controlling leaking. I myself like Fisher and Paykel masks, they're easier for me to adjust. The strap tension is moderate.

RE: Abdulfakih - Therapy Thread
Happy Christmas guys, so I managed to get a physher full face mask that my cousins was using and it does seem better in terms of leaks. However, I have not been able to sleep at all with the CPAP. Unfortunately it seems like I am fighting against the pressure all the time.

My theory is that I have a non periodic pattern for breathing. I think this is the case because I a lm constantly fighting against the pressure of the machine, it’s either I am suffocating or I am getting blasted air into my face. It’s like the machine can’t predict my breathing. And in all honesty I think this is a me problem, even during the day I can notice I have uneven breathing.

Basically I am out of options now

If pressure is keeping you from getting any therapy time, then reduce pressure to where it is tolerable. You will eventually adapt and optimize the pressure to your needs.
