[Treatment] Sleepster's Son
#1
Sleepster's Son
As you can see in the attached chart my son has a PRS1 Series 60 BiPAP Auto and it seems to be effective. (Especially in view of the fact that he has an untreated AHI of over 100).

He has a min EPAP of 13.5, max IPAP of 23.0, and a PS that varies between 0.0 and 7.5. Bi-Flex is set to 2.

My question is this, he wants to buy a machine on craigslist and he wants to know what kind to get. DreamStations are unavailable so I want to get him a ResMed A10. I was thinking he could go with the AirCurve 10 VAUTO with a min EPAP of 12.0 and a max IPAP of 17, but what about the PS? It's almost always below 1.0, and you can see one spot on one of the charts where it goes to 3.2. So I was thinking of setting the PS to 2.0.

Another option could be to get him an AirSense 10 with a minimum pressure of 12.0 and a maximum pressure of 17.0 with a EPR of 2.0.

What say you?

Now that I've thought about it some more it seems that if I were to get the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet I would set the minimum pressure to 14.0, maximum pressure to 17.0, and EPR to 2. That would give him an min EPAP of 12.0 (14.0-2) and a max IPAP of 17.0.

I assume you do not want to consider an ASV like he is on today and would go with the Vauto over the Autoset as it gives the most options with pressure support, trigger, cycle, etc.

For the Vauto use a PS of between 3 and 4 based on the charts. I would be concerned that the Autoset would not have enough PS as it is limited to 3.

I wasn't aware that his current machine is an ASV. I thought it was just an auto BiPAP.

I was thinking the same thing, but he is spending most of his time with the PS between 0 and 1. I was just thinking that the AutoSet would serve his needs and that there's little reason to go to the extra expense of the VAUTO when it appears he doesn't need the extra pressure support.
