UARS? Time to start therapy

UARS? Time to start therapy
Hey everyone, over the past few years, I’ve struggled with poor sleep, often feeling mildly tired during the day. It’s not debilitating, but I think addressing my sleep issues could significantly improve my quality of life. I have a small-ish lower jaw and my partner observes me frequently snoring/gasping/snorting in my sleep. A recent WatchPAT sleep study (attached) showed an AHI of 6.7 and an RDI of 19.2, which seems to suggest UARS. This was a pretty typical night's sleep for me, waking up many times (I think) due to respiratory events with spikes on an all the charts. (Oh and my BMI is about 25.)

Unfortunately, I live in Japan, where treatment options are limited unless you have severe sleep apnea, so I’m largely navigating this on my own. Through the local health insurance system, I can try a mandibular advancement device, so that’s my next step. If that doesn’t help, I’m considering importing a BiPAP machine.

I’d really appreciate it if anyone could take a look at my sleep study, confirm whether I’m on the right track, and share any advice. Thanks so much for your help!

(I assume everyone is familiar enough reading these that translations from Japanese aren't necessary... but if they are or there are any other questions I can answer please let me know of course!)

Yes, the sleep study definitely confirms you're having trouble sleeping. Most importantly you had around 10 times where your blood oxygen (Sa02%) dropped below 90% and the drops also lineup with spikes in your heart rate.

Good luck with the mandibular advancement device, you may also consider some positional apnea devices to keep you off your back. I've used the "WoodyKnows" device with good results from Amazon.

If you decide to import a device look for a seller that will share the amount of "run hours" the machine has. I'd recommend the Resmed Aircurve 10 Autoset and you'll have to find a mask that works for you. I started with the Resmed F20 but it's whatever ends up being comfortable for you. Good luck.
