Using EGO lawnmower batteries to run a biPAP

Using EGO lawnmower batteries to run a biPAP
I have an EGO lawnmower and various tools. This means I have big batteries! I can get an inverter to get power out of the batteries in emergencies (EGO makes one of those), but have no idea how much EGO battery would power a Resmed A10 for a night. If I get the EGO inverter, I would be getting the one-battery-at-a-time version. In an emergency, I would be okay with swapping out a battery or two in the middle of the night, and don't want to run the expense of an inverter that uses, like, 8 batteries, when I only own 3.

Any ideas how much EGO battery I'd need for a night of Resmed A10?

Since batteries and the CPAP both use DC current, it would be more efficient not to use an inverter.  I would look into getting a DC-DC power supply for the Resmed and see about having your Ego battery step down to 24 (preferred) or 12 volts.  The power supply that I have been using constantly for 4 years now, is from Amazon/KFD (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RQP...UTF8&psc=1).  Its price is around $30.00USD.

The only step-down I can find is 12 volts.  It is a Pro Chaser DC-DC Step Down Voltage Reducer Regulator.  Amazon has it for $14.55USD.  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B6B6HQZ/ref...EPF53W08_1

So for around $50 you will have a more efficient setup. Of course, you will have to do a little wiring modification.

Great minds think alike! I just built one of these for a 40 volt Ryobi lawnmower battery to power my Air sense 10 during power failures. I used a Buck Transformer (Amazon) to reduce the 40 volts to 24 volts and a 12/24 volt car adaptor for the AS10 (Amazon). Packed it all up in a metal project box.

Note. I originally thought that all I needed was the the Buck Transformer and the appropriate plug for rhe AS10. Turns out that the AS10 house current power supply provides 24 volts on the inner and outer contacts AND 3.3 volts on the center pin. That is why I used the Car adapter for the connection.

For a run time calculation you would need to know battery voltage and amp hour rating a little loss for the DC/DC converter that Red suggested (good idea), A little Cooke Book math, and you are up and running.

I run GreenWorks tools and have already converted one of my extra 80 VDC battery chargers to power source 24 VDC through a DC/DC converter (works with my portable freeze/refrigerator too)

Wow, @fixed it, that's awesome. What is the run time on that set up for a CPAP?

Right after I built it I ran it for 1 hour attached to the AS10 and it hardly put a dent in the battery. Not very scientific but the Ryobi Battery has a charge indicator and it was still full. That 1 hour was without heated humdifier. I will post actual run time when I have it, but I also have 3 of these batteries for a leaf blower and a weed wacker. Its a quick swap if needed.

By the way, just be sure to plug your battery into the correct device suitable for Apnea treatment. Lawn mowers and weed trimmers probably doesn't work as well with CPAP masks.
