What does a home sleep test do?
Was referred to use the home test machine. I asked if it would show my exact pressure then was told there is no air blowing. What is the point. This just sounds like a test to tell IF I have sleep apnea. Not a pressure setting. They said that they could set up a auto app to run and it would take care of the rest. I know i have sleep apnea. I'm using machine number 2. Why Iam i wasting money to tell me i have something i know i have. Or is there more??? Also i haven't slept without a cpap for many years. I'm afraid I'm I'll never wake up again.

They are a useful diagnostic test if you don't know if you have sleep apnea. In your case, it sounds like a waste of time. Is this for insurance coverage?

I just had one done and was prescribed a CPAP for the first time based on the test results. It was called a Alice One Night or something like that. I you are interested, PM me with your e-mail and I can send you a copy of what it looks like. Essentially they measure oxygen levels with the clothes pin pickup on your finger, a cannula in your nose I presume to measure air flow, and a device strapped to your chest to measure inhale and exhale action, and I pressume collect the data. It is not pleasant. I got perhaps 3 hours of real sleep.
It gives a measure of OA and CA events and calculates an AHI, along with oxygen levels.
This said, I think you can get most of the same data from a CPAP except for the oxygen levels, so I wonder why they are wanting to do a test. Perhaps one of those insurance things....

I have an s8 that shows some data. I dont know why they just dont go off of that.

Do you have a copy of your original sleep study and prescription or can you still get it? If so I'd try to get the insurance company to accept that. You could also just go out and pay for one yourself.

I read here somewhere, your original sleep test is only good for 10 years. It sounds like you are on machine #2 and need a new one? If that's the case... Just do the sleep test so you can get it..
I would think a re-evaluation at some point would be needed by your Dr. to make sure things are going smoothly and that you are being treated properly. This is not a big deal, just go with the flow....

Hellodare, the sleep test you are looking at is for diagnostic purposes only. What you really need is for your doctor to write a script for auto CPAP. Some medical equipment suppliers can provide an Auto CPAP for a pressure trial, but that is usually used when they plan to dispense a fixed CPAP. Your doctor seems just as confused about this as you are.
