What makes your curves disappear while the machine is clearly on?

What makes your curves disappear while the machine is clearly on?
I've been trying to figure out what's going on with some really impressive flow limits during times that I've got some leaks going on. The leaks are significant, but not over the redline. I've got these long segments where the flow rate curve gets amazingly squashed, however NOT flat. There's still identifiable structure to the curve. And I'm getting very few events flagged. Then last night I saw something that I had never seen before -- a couple of minutes where the cpap just stopped recording data entirely.

Huh -- what happened?!?

You didn't turn off your machine/take off your mask/have a minor power outage? It says on your screenshot that that gap is the break between multiple sessions - you have four from that day? It simply looks like you turned your Resmed off then back on again a couple of minutes later... if you don't remember turning it off, I guess either you did it in your sleep or it was a short power outage maybe? Because if the machine is running when the power goes out, it starts up again and continues running when the power returns.

Edit to add: You have SmartStart on, so I wonder if you're shifting your mask and the machine thinks you're not wearing it until it goes back into a position where it can detect your breathing? I saw someone else mention that they had their machine turn off potentially after a long apnea (they said 30 seconds but I've absolutely recorded longer than that on the regular without SmartStart on)... But honestly, if you weren't actually turning it off yourself, and power outages weren't an issue, I'd maybe try turning off SmartStart and see how many sessions it creates. Do you normally stop your machine a lot during the night?

I used Smart Start on my S9 success.  I initially used Smart Start when I switched to the A10 VAuto.  However, I experienced intermittent data loss.  I haven't experienced this problem since turning this option off.

The thing that's freaky is that the machine says it started a new session, but it didn't take the pressure down to seven when it started. The pressure was pegged at 15/12 by the flow limit, and it came back the pressure was still 15/12, the flow limit was still 0.37 on both sides. The mask pressure is 12 at the beginning of the gap and 12.57 at the end. The leak is 8.4 on both sides of the gap -- significant, yes, but not anywhere near redline. Here's a closeup of just the gap --

[attachment=32477]

Why would the machine start a session with my pressure not at the minimum?

And why aren't any of these  getting flagged as hypopneas or apneas?

The session number changes, but that doesn't look like any kind of power off and back on I've ever seen? I have smart start on but don't power off automatically. If the mask came totally off my face wouldn't there be a gigantic leak somewhere?

Hmmm -- just wondered -- maybe the SD card is failing?

RE: What makes your curves disappear while the machine is clearly on?
I was going to suggest it looks positional, but there is no corresponding increase in pulse or decrease in SpO2 associated with these events. As far as your heart is concerned, it's like this never happened.

My guess is that it has something to do with smart start and the leaking mask. I wouldn't worry about it unless it keeps happening.

I suggest you try a different mask. Your equipment provider should provide this for you as most people have to try several different masks before finding one that fits properly.

RE: What makes your curves disappear while the machine is clearly on?
I see three issues
1, the Gap, turn smartstart off and see if that fixes it, It is remotely possible that the SD card wasn't firmly seated and vibrated out of and back into position.
2, the drop in flow rate to mee it looks positional. There are mild arousal elements in your flowrate as well
3, your flow limits are high

On the S9, you couldn't use the Smart Start with an FFM selected, only a nasal or pillow mask. However, if you selected this option when using one of the other masks, it would operate with an FFM. I've noticed that the A10 series doesn't appear to limit this feature to mask type.

On my S9 I have Smart Start turned on and FFM selected, and it works just fine!
