Thank you for all your comments. It is making me feel better that I am not nuts and this problem with the resmed 10 is not in my head. I have to see my provider next week and I am going to ask to try a respironic machine. Wish me luck!

Stress to your provider how your treatment depends on getting equipment you are comfortable with. Good luck!

Whatever machine you end up with, be sure to ask your provider to show you how to set it up, and most important, since you don't want to breath in warm air....you won't need a heated hose. Ask about settings on the humidifier to give you the most comfort. Best of luck.

RE: When did all of this get so complicated?
I have a ResMed AirSence 10, and it is the only machine I have used.
I run preheat, mask fit, and humidity on 8. I have measured the output of my machine at the mask end of the hose and the temperature is typically 2 deg F warmer than the room. Which we keep a at balmy 64 F. the Humidity is 10-15 % higher than the room air which fluctuates between 8% and 50% with the weather. I have found the machine to be very user friendly. It even reminds me when I forget to put the data card back in.
