Looking for opinions. I have been feeling a sense of “not getting good quality sleep” and had a sleep study performed on 29 April of this year. It was my third test and the first with titration.
The findings came back with recommendations of a Bi-PAP machine with settings of 10/5.
Prior to this I was using my AirSense machine with auto settings of 6-12. I did not realize that my machine did not have Bi-PAP capabilities. I also learned that auto settings do not vary the inhale and exhale pressures.
The sleep technician related to me that she observed optimal settings for me during the study for the BiPAP as listed above. I did feel reasonably refreshed the next morning as I recall.
When I had my follow-up appointment about a month after the test, the technician recommended a new Bi-PAP machine and was hot- to- trot in ordering one up. I declined stating that I want to research the Bi-PAP options and I also wanted to investigate changing the settings on my current CPAP/ AutoPAP machine. I tried to see how I would react with a constant pressure of 10 (even trying as high as 11.) I seem to tolerate it well and I “feel” as if I am sleeping well throughout the night. But I am not feeling a “refreshed” well slept feeling upon arising.
I am considering the recommendation of getting the Bi-PAP machine but would like opinions and comments if anyone has done similar and if there were improved results.
RE: Will a Bi-PAP machine make a difference for me?
Your Autoset had EPR which is effectively 3-cm of pressure support. Did you use it? If your recommended bilevel pressure is 10/5, then set your Autoset to a minimum pressure 8.0, maximum pressure 12.0 and turn on EPR full time at 3. That will provide a range of 8.0/5.0 to 12.0/9.0. The bilevel Vauto or S model will have some trigger and cycle sensitivity settings and Ti Min and Max, but I'm pretty sure your medical team is not even aware of it. You have a bilevel machine. Use it and then show me the graphs.

RE: Will a Bi-PAP machine make a difference for me?
Thanks for the info... I will try the recommendations tonight...
But just to be sure... are you saying my machine is an actual Bi-PAP (or are we trying to manipulate it to try and "react" as one?)
It is an AirSense 10 Autoset about 3 years old.

I'd like to see some baseline CPAP results so we know where this is starting, but the Autoset uses the same bilevel pressure as a VPAP when EPR is enabled. The difference is that it is limited to 3 cm of pressure support. I'm not sure how a pressure support of 5 cm was derived, but I suspect at the altitude you live at, the results won't be pretty and you will encounter a significant increase in CA events. I would not be surprised if altitude is not the root cause of some of your sleep disturbance and fatigue, so a baseline knowledge of your results is going to be even more important.

I am in the process of getting OSCAR set up on my computer... what graphs would be most helpful. Please treat me as ignorant and be specific. I am also trying to figure out the graphics resolutions because what I see on my end is awful (see other new post asking about this.)
