I seem close but yet so far away

Now to dive into the mask arena. Which is proving to be uber frustrating.

Machine came with a P10, which I like. But starts making noise on exhale after a few hours and disturbs me. Also bought the F40i. Which is super quiet. BUT, after a while it rides up my chin and presses the nose cradle into my nose with such force that I awake in pain.

My leak rate is good with both masks so they stay sealed enough to not affect treatment.

I sure wish the sleep labs/dr’s would sit down with a new user and discuss masks and measure your face and make recommendations. Instead they mail you a machine and you are on your own to figure it all out.

I was thinking about fashioning a chin strap that runs from the upper mask strap on the F40 to keep it from riding up.

I have been using CPAP since 2000 and I would guess that I have had 20 different masks and I never found one that I liked till about 10 years ago then about 6 years ago ResMed quit making it.  So now I have a ResMed N20 and F20 and they are not too bad.  If I get irritated with the F20 I will switch to the N20 for a night or two.  My Respiratory Therapist has always fitted and sized my masks.  I still had leaks, noise and pain of some sort on my face anyway.  One thing I finally figured out about fitting masks is prior to purchasing, when you try it on put your head back, look up at the ceiling and see how it fits then.  Anyway, that is what works for me when getting a new mask.

I'm sure I'll get better at the mask game as time goes on. As a newby I'm in the 'why can't this just work' phase.

There is no list at the VA as to what masks they can supply. I requested a resmed P30I as I do like nasal pillow type masks. But I have to wait (they are slow) and hope after that wait, they don't come back with. We don't carry that one.

But dang it. Medicine can transplant hearts, lungs, eyes and a few other things. But cpap masks are more mysterious than Bigfoot and UFO's Thinking-about
