Trying wisp nasal mask
Have been using a FFM for 6 months. Wanted to try a nasal mask and arrived yesterday. As I suspected, I can't breath with my mouth shut! Was hoping the air pressure of the S-9 would help. I don't see this working? I have a trial period to return it. I'll try a nasal rinse but don't think that will help?

RE: Trying wisp nasal mask
If you are a mouth breather then you may need a chin strap. I use the silicone wisp and I was using a FFM prior to that and I had to use a chin strap with it but after a few months, I no longer needed the chin strap.
As far as not being able to breath with your mouth shut, sometimes that happens to me when my allergies and/or sinuses are messed up and I found that if I blow my nose before I mask up, that even that little bit helps me be able to use the wisp just fine. I am not sure how much a nasal rinse will help but you could try Patanase or something like that to see if it opens up your nose because that is most likely the reason you cannot breath well with your mouth closed. I can only tell you what works for me and hopefully it will work for you too. I have been using the wisp for 1 1/2 years and I am not considering changing any time soon. If it quits working as well then I will consider trying pillows but for now, nasal mask is working well for me. YMMV

RE: Trying wisp nasal mask
Has an ENT (ear/nose/throat specialist - otolaryngologist) checked you out? If you have a sinus blockage where you are forced to breathe out of your mouth, it's at least worth understanding the root cause. If you can ordinarily breathe out of your nose when you aren't exercising, a chin strap might do the trick.
<nasal pillow bigot paragraph> I started with a Wisp nasal mask for my first two months. The ResMed Airfit P10 nasal pillow advocates here convinced me to give that a try. I overpaid a bit (~$80, I recall) from the giant internet retailer using my Prime membership but I'm really glad I changed. For me, any mask will leak after some number of hours when oils build up in my skin. The nasal pillows don't have that problem, I see far less leak issues, and have better comfort. It probably added 30+ minutes of sleep time. YMMV </nasal pillow bigot paragraph>
RE: Trying wisp nasal mask
I have been trying one out, and it is bulkier than the pillow masks I have. I cannot turn my neck enough when sleeping on my side to put my face into the pillow on my bed, so I get a sore neck from it...

RE: Trying wisp nasal mask
Hi Popriv,
I hope you can make that mask work for you. One reason I switched from the Wisp to the pillows mask is that after a while, I kept having the cilicon frames fracture and I wasn't rough with them. I didn't try the fabric frame though. Of course, YMMV. Much success to you in finding a mask that will work for you.
