CPAP is a journey like “The Wizard of Oz”. It’s a long slow journey. You will face many problems and pick up many friends along the way. Just because you reach the poppies, it doesn’t mean you are in Kansas.

The Rx is yours. The doctor has to give you the Rx if you request it. There was a period when I was still with the same HMO, but the coverage I had did not cover CPAP supplies. I got the Rx and was able to get supplies for less cost at some of the online suppliers.
Again, ask the doctor for the Rx. If they won't give it to you, demand that they give you the information for you to file a complaint. They'll give you the Rx or the information to file a complaint. If they won't give you either, get that information from a clinic and file a serious charge.

Just tell them that you are a patient and unfamiliar with who owns what. You want a copy of the raw results from which the report was made as well as the summery report (by law, you are entitled to this). FROM YOUR DOCTOR, you want an original of the prescription, not a copy. You will provide a copy to whomever you are getting supplies.

Odoyle.....get that quote in writing from the doctor's office....and after they give it to you, tell them that you will be filing it as part of a HIPPA complaint. You should get a copy of the prescription in the next 30 seconds. Of course, you will also have to find a new doctor...so there is a trade off.
You are entitled to a copy of your medical records which includes prescriptions. You don't need the original. A copy is as valid as the original.
Perhaps the best approach would be to tell the dr's office that you will be flying to Europe and you need a copy of the prescription to allow you to take the CPAP as carry on luggage.

The specialist should prescribe the rate of air flow, or pressure, and if it is to be variable, that the machine provide the sensing and variability. Although I have been using a loaner that is of the adjustable kind, the ResMed As-10, until my insurance answers the question of compensation, my monitoring results indicate that I could get by nicely with a straight ol' CPAP. Instead of what has been until now a maximum average flow of 10 cm H2O, the consensus between my therapist and the sleep doctor is that I should do okay with only 8 cm. So, the specialist prescribed a machine capable of delivering between 5-8 cm, which they can all do.
