given airsense 10 for trial

given airsense 10 for trial
Hi,

I've just started (day 5 last night) a CPAP trial.  I have been diagnosed with "mild" sleep apnea after 2 sleep studies - one at home and one in hospital, I also have Myathenia Gravis and asthma.  The diagnosis on mild  apnea was a bit surprising, since it occurs when I'm supine and/or in REM sleep.

The airsense 10 I was given already had 200+ hours on before I started.  So far I seem to have no big issues adapting, so I will probably decide to purchase a CPAP machine at the end of the 2 month trial.  I'm in Canada (BC), and health insurance (PBC) may or may not decide to reimburse me the cost of the CPAP machine, and apparently can take them up to 2 month to make up their mind.  The existing co-morbidities might make the accept my claim.

Should I insist that the machine I end up purchasing should be: 1. brand new, 2.  the latest model (11) available.  I'm not sure how important would be to get ver. 11 vs 10 (maybe the airsense 10 is perfectly fine), and 200 hours of usage s not very much, so I'm asking.  Smile  The current machine only has cell and SD card - no wifi or BT capabilities, while I think the newer model does.

If they want to sell you a used machine, no matter how little hours on it, as a buyer I'd want a good discount.

I acquired my ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet back in Sept. of 2018. It was presented to me as a new machine. It wasn't until I got it home and asked on this very forum, how to check for it's hour usage.

I found out that it had 58 hrs. on it. I called back to the DME supplier and they gave me a song and dance routine of an explanation. They told me that they could order another one in, but it'd take a few weeks.

Me being totally new to CPAP and not sure how serious of an affliction it was, decided to keep the one I had so that I could getting started on the therapy.

From what I have heard on here, most seem to prefer the 10 over the 11 for various reasons. My 10 has been great and it hasn't given me any grief.  Cool

I prefer the 10 over the 11. The 10 has an excellent track record, but I see more complaints about the 11.

Thank you both for replying.  I spoke to the tech helping me through the trial, and was told that I will get a brand new machine.  I should be able to choose between the Airsense 10 and 11 - sounds like I should stick with the 10.

Yes, if you have a choice, many seem to believe that the 10 is tried and tested. I would agree with them.  Smile

i'd say get the 10, too. and in the grand scheme of things, 200 hours is nothing. those machines are rated at 25,000 +/- hours.

but i get you'd want a new one.

i have/had a 10. i now have the aircurve 10. my wife has the 11. i can't stand the touchscreen menu on the 11.
