AQUIRED OXIMETER, WAS TOLD WOULD BE COMPATIBLE WITH MY MAC. IN NEED OF SET UP HELP

RE: AQUIRED OXIMETER, WAS TOLD WOULD BE COMPATIBLE WITH MY MAC. IN NEED OF SET UP HELP
I have just purchased a CMS501. I use a MacBook Air (2018) and have installed the latest silabs drivers, but Oscar still does not recognize my device when attached to the Mac (yes it is turned on). Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi Maynard64! - Welcome
Due to a firmware update (version 2), the newer CMS-50 models will not communicate directly with OSCAR. You might be able to run a virtual Windows to be able to use their software. I don't know if anyone has tried running Smart Device Assistant using Parallels.

If your MacBook Air has the Intel chip, then yes you can run Windows in VM software.  I use VMware Fusion with Windows 10, and the Oximeter and Smart Device Assistant software work fine together.  Just use the cable that came with the oximeter.  Then I import the SpO2 file into OSCAR.
Parallels should be the same.

Your choices for VM software are:
  • Parallels
  • VMware Fusion
  • Oracle Virtualbox
If you have the M1 chip then you may be out of luck.  Last I looked none of the three VM software developers had any version that would work with the M1 chip.
