p10 leak rate

p10 leak rate
Hi all!

Sometime you read :I have 0 leak . Is it literally possible to have 0 leak with the auto sense 10 and the p10 mask? I mean 0 . As much as I have been trying , the best I could do is 6/7 l/min and there is no mouth leak (tape- working on tongue practice) .

Although I think my # are ok ,as anyone ever obtain 0 leak with the same equipment ? Just curious !!!

RE: p10 leak rate
There's seems to be a built in error of about 6 to 7cm with the P10 mask. I've had the same problem as has many others. You can ignore it. Just figure if it reads at 6cm or 7cm than it's really zero.

Seems like you could do empirical tests by just blocking the mask pillows from the inside with silicone earplugs or something and run your machine to see what a perfect seal looks like on SH.

Out of the 8 or so masks I've used, the only one I noticed the false leak reading from was the P10.

Also that was only on the Resmed Air Sense 10 and Air Curve VAUTO. It doesn't really apply to the Dreamstation machines.

Looks like they've worked on the " leak rate "chart accuracy for the P10 mask with the Resmed 10. 1st chart is from 08/18. 2nd chart is from 02/19.

Use to be 6/7 cm = 0, now looks to be 1/2 =0. Not that it's very important but it's a good improvement.

RE: p10 leak rate
I have never had zero leak rate with my P10s, typically at about 3-4. But, there appear to be no leaking from around the pillows.

I can't help but believe that ResMed estimates the baseline leak value based on venting less some unknown (to us) value based on the mask type value in the config. When leak rates are compared between Respironics and ResMeds, the Respironics are always considerably higher, this suggests that ResMeds do normalize the leak rate.

How could the device tell the difference between leaks and venting?

The rate of air flow and back pressure.
