slam7241 (Therapy Thread)
This is my very 1st post on this forum.  I am a 76M who has been on CPAP >12 yrs. Last 9 yrs was on Airsense 10. I discovered and installed OCCAR last week, but is confused on how to understd data. Have not seen my Pulmonary Dr since Pre COV19.  Just made appt to see new Pulmonary Dr. next month. I have not been sleeping well for quite a few weeks & not sure why.  Struggle with HBP & on Calcium Channel Blocker. Think my sleep is related to being tired & HBP.  Why is my Clear Airway (Central Apnea) so high & do I need ASV instead of current CPAP?  Should I lower my Pressure setting? I read somewhere that overpressure induces CA.  I also have tinnitus after using CPAP for >6 yrs...& high CPAP pressure make it worst. Sam (sorry...I don't know how to attach screen data other than printscreen.)

RE: Newbie need help with OSCAR
Hi slam7241!  -  Welcome
We have articles to help in understanding OSCAR as well as, how to take screenshots within it and how to post them here.  Please see the links in my signature to help with some of your questions.   Some things, like understanding what OSCAR may be showing you, will come in time and experience.

You're off to a good start, but you need to use the F12 key to take the screenshot.   The pie chart, calendar, and the Right Sidebar are taking up valuable real estate and hiding important information.  Using the F12 key will collapse them before taking the screenshot.

Also, make sure that you are scrolled to the top, so we may see the Flow Rate graph.  The graphs are arranged in order of importance.

Please don't zoom in on your initial display. An overall picture of the complete night can show a lot.

RE: Newbie need help with OSCAR
This attachment shows majority of events being CA, with #41 showing no breathing for 46 seconds. That can't be good.   No wonder I am feeling so tired out of breath in the morning. Since my doctor's appt isn't until 7/13/22, I want to play around with the settings in the meantime to see if I can make any improvements. I use humidifier set at 85F level 3 to help me breath through my nose; also use flonase. I have heard that overpressure may induce CA...so, I am going to try lower my max pressure from 12 to 11 tonite & see what happen.  The worst section of my sleep is from 3am to 7 am.   Every time I get up to go to pee, I spray my nose with saline, wet my eyes with eye drops and drink water due to dry mouth, dry eye & stuffy nose.

RE: Newbie need help with OSCAR
First that appears to be ideopathic central apnea.

Please a full night without the calendar and pie chart so we can see other critical info.

Also what is going on health wise?
Do you have any heart conditions? The periodic breathing suggests maybe yes but the flow rate chart is not typical.
Any other, no apnea pulmonary issues? COPD and Asthma come to mind but be complete and specific.
Any Neuromuscular conditions?, CNS meds, brain injury, concussion or seizures? Pain meds, especially opioids or synthetics. All of the above can cause central apnea.

Thank you for your advice. using the F12 key gets print screen; F8 takes out the left sidebar ; F10 takes out the right side bar. I am slowly getting it.  Sam

We wanted the left sidebar, it was the right sidebar we didn't want.  Like I said, just use the F12 key, and it will take care of the rest.

RE: Newbie need help with OSCAR
Thank you for the questions.   Heart condition ok per doctor & EEG...  Occasionally, I take aspirin 81mg when I have chest tightness...   but never had heart attack or stroke or skip beat. Had High BP since early 60's ...currently on Amlodipine & Losartan. No COPD or Asthma, negative on  neuromuscular issues, brain injury (except tinnitus) , no pain med  or any opioids or alcohol. Don't drink or smoke through life.  COV19 reduced exercise routine. No overweigh issue. Known OA since early 60's verified with 2 sleep studies. Last sleep study more than 5 years ago. Going to see new Pulmonary Dr 7/13.  probably will want me to so another sleep study...My SD card (8GB) with the Airsense 10 has data from 2013 to present....now it is all open to OSCAR, a wonderful software.   Sam

Oscar Data Interpretation
This is my 2nd day on this forum.  Please help me interpret my Oscar result from last night. I seemed to have slept better for the 1st part of the night, but was struggling after 3am and worse after 5am.  The expanded flow rate between 5am to 5.15am shows each inhale & exhale like less than a second. My wife told me the CPAP sold like it was puffing every second, but I was not breathing.   What does this mean?  I felt out of breath when I wake up & immediately took deep breath consciously on my own.  Not sure if the data reflect it.  I was tired when I got out of bed but recovered nicely within 10 to 15 minutes. I dropped my max pressure from 12 to 11 last night.  Felt better today with AHI 3.57 than yesterday's AHI 8.68       Sam
