the algorithm
Hi all,

Been using the ResMed Airsense 11 APAP machine for 3 weeks now.  Trying to understand how the software works, I read the Resmed docs I could find but didn't really see what i was looking for.

What i'm wondering is if there's any sort of AI learning built into it?  Like, will it learn my breathing patterns etc over time and begin to anticipate events?  Or does the machine simply run on the settings and works in a reactive way?  Or is it a combo of both?  If it does learn your patterns, what happens when you start on a different machine, you would have to wait for it to learn again?

Thanks

Not.

thats.. not how it works. all machines use the same algorithm. it detects airway obstructions and modifies pressure accordingly.

if any analysis is done on our data (and i'm sure it is) it's done in resmed's offices, who when needed publishes algorithm updates to everyone.

RE: the algorithm
There is no Ai and the algorithms that control pressure have not changed substantially since the Resmed S-8 model nearly 20 years ago. Resmed increases pressure in response to flow limitation, snores and obstructive events. The FOT apnea detection algorithm has been around forever. While the company has many many changes and improvements over the years, and made use of improved chip sets, blowers, communications and has downsized equipment, it remains a fairly old technology, mainly because that is what is FDA approved.

RE: the algorithm
I actually did some research on this a few months ago. No, resmed does not use AI to adapt therapy to your sleep apnea. I suppose that in the future it might be something they consider. Although, as others have mentioned, the use the same algorithm because it is FDA approved. I will be interested to see if in the future CPAP companies will begin to incorporate newer algorithms into their machines.

The detection algorithms are the same, but have the response algorithms not changed?
