RE: thebestdog - Therapy Thread
Thanks Jay I appreciate these suggestions without them I am just poking around and hoping to stumble on something that works. I didn't have any back up rate on at all the last three nights for an experiment. I'm going to try a back up rate of 16. Median rate in the OSCAR stats is 17 breathes per minute. You think it's a good idea to set it as close as possible to the median?

Maybe this flat flow might be a brief breath hold. No inhale flow within the leading edge of the flat, possibly indicates not necessarily true Central based. I'm seeing a dip down to a slight exhale, stop, very slight exhale again then flat.

Dave-I don't know what to make of it- there were a few of these but not loads of them. I also had the pulse oximeter recording overnight and there are no drops in O2 at that time. I'm trying to figure why I would be waking up so often and this is the only suspicious thing I see about the breathing pattern.
RE: thebestdog - Therapy Thread
Dave is probably spot on. Just because you had a 4 second pause in breathing there (like a "mini" CA), there could have been a few different causes for it. You most likely did something before it (breath hold like Dave saw), or even a huge breath before it can then trigger a CA.
Setting the back up rate a little below your median sounds just right. You can always experiment with it up or down as well. Just one more thought as well. Do you remember if you had a lot of PLM's on your sleep study (periodic leg movement)? If you are tossing and turning and changing positions a lot during sleep, this could be another contributing factor.
