Magnet clips with stents??? - eok361 - 09-14-2023 backdrop: i just had 3 stents inserted into my arteries in june of this year. i own two resmed magnetic clip masks (n20, f20) and was thinking about trying the dreamwear ff mask. then i saw that the dreamwear was recalled, due to their magnets. i also am not getting a 100% great response regarding resmeds magnets, as far as their clips go. does anyone in my boat have any input? resmed's apparent corporate response is that as long as the magnets stay 2" away from the stents, that should be fine. i do a lot of things with magnets, and some are of the rare earth, neodymium variety. not any more! my cardiologist isn't much help in this department. if anyone has been down this road (or with other things...pacemaker's, etc, please chime in. thanks RE: Magnet clips with stents??? - Nightynite - 09-14-2023 Stents are wire mesh, when they’re inserted and expand they hold open the arteries. Logically thinking there’s nothing a magnet could effect since there’s no internal functioning parts. A pacemaker is a different story! RE: Magnet clips with stents??? - staceyburke - 09-14-2023 I have 6 stents and have had 3 MRIs. If that does not bother them I'm sure a small magnet on the head gear is not a problem. Logically thinking there’s nothing a magnet could effect since there’s no internal functioning parts. i would think that's the case. i do have a call in to my cardiologist just to be sure. but he's the kind of guy who will hit me with "why are you asking me this silly of a question?" i just want to be safe. it appears that philips went way overboard on their recommendations against using the clips. i'd like to try the dreamwear ff mask, but not if it's a health risk. but i'm just not seeing that it would be. thanks RE: Magnet clips with stents??? - foss - 09-15-2023 I have a stent in the left common iliac vein in my lower abdomen. I have had numerous CAT scans since its placement. Before the initial scan the operator required clearance from the cardiovascular surgeon that placed the stent. My stent is made from a non-magnetic material and is not affected by magnetic fields. The surgeon should provide that kind of information. Jeff RE: Magnet clips with stents??? - Sleeprider - 09-15-2023 Stents are non-ferrous, non-magnetic material and are not affected by magnets. Artery stents are even safe in very high magnetic fields like MRI. RE: Magnet clips with stents??? - DaveL - 09-15-2023 Thanks everyone! Thanks Sleeprider! Me...3 stents recently, and in a heart recovery program. RE: Magnet clips with stents??? - eok361 - 09-15-2023 Thank you, all. It looks like the disclaimer by both Resmed and Philips (pre-recall) were a little too wide-reaching. Which I get. But my cardiologist hasn't called me back yet (no surprise). I'll just wait to have him verify the non-ferrous material before resuming with the magnets. I don't mind waiting, for peace of mind. leaks, leaks, leaks - eok361 - 09-21-2023 Short story: I went to a Resmed AS10 in June, after using a PR system one for years. Through various masks and other accessories (mouth tape, sof collar, v-com), I just can't seem to get leaks under control. The PR leak threshold was a lot higher than RMs 24lpm, so I'm sure that has something to do with how I never got leak overage before. This graph is from my latest mask attempt, which is a Fisher & Paykel Vitera. From what I had read it was the best at sealing any potential leak spots. Well, the numbers speak for themselves. Other masks I have tried are the N20 and F20 resmed. Same story, but not as drastic as the F&P. I don't know what to do. I am buying these masks out of pocket and it's starting to add up. The numbers (other than leaks) look ok to me, but I'm not a professional at reading this OSCAR data. I'm really just venting (no pun intended). I have no idea how to correct these numbers, or which of the masks is the lesser of the 3 evils. This Vitera will definitely be going up for sale as lightly used. thanks RE: leaks, leaks, leaks - SarcasticDave94 - 09-21-2023 When I was on PAP therapy, the Vitera I had was doing very well, even at higher pressures. There's a unique way you need to put it on and also adjust. I'll see if I can find old posts on it. |
