Pressure Support
From Apnea Board Wiki
Definition
Pressure Support - Pressure support (PS) in Bilevel positive airway pressure (BPAP) therapy, is the difference between inspiratory positive air pressure (IPAP) and expiratory positive pressure (EPAP). For example if IPAP is set at 12 and EPAP is set at 8 the PS is 12 - 8 = 4.0.
Uses of Pressure Support
Pressure Support is used in BPAP therapy for comfort, reduction of flow limitation, control of hypopnea, to increase tidal volume or resolve hypoventilation, to cause a breath during central apnea and to even out respiratory volume during periodic breathing or Cheyne-Stokes Respiration.
