Just Earned an Autoset!

Just Earned an Autoset!
After using a loaner ResMed S9 AutoSet for about 7 or so weeks on a trial basis, I (finally) got a script for one from the pulmonologist. That was this morning, and I turned it in to the DME post-haste. Now waiting to hear from them. My new S9 Elite sitting on the shelf is more than 30 days old but I'm still in the Medicare rental-to-buy-period. So, I don't know how much grief I'll get from the DME about making the switch called for on the new Rx. As I've read here on the board, Medicare pays DMEs one flat number for equipment, and the more expensive AutoSet will mean less profit for the DME.

The ResScan printouts I gave the doc show improved AHI from previous reports using the Elite (CPAP) as well as the recent sleep study that showed a zero AHI at 13cm, which the AutoSet proved to be just plain wrong. The range it has been reaching is from about a low of 14 (range set by the doc has been 8-18) up to the ceiling set at 18. Another victory for me is that the doc went with my suggestion of raising that ceiling from 18 to 19 on the AutoSet Rx to avoid the 18 limit from being repeatedly knocked against during the AutoSet trial period.

My apnea "has been difficult to control," according to the doc. I guess that's so, since my best numbers have been down to 2 or 3, but the median AHI, according to ResScan during the AutoSet trial, has been 6.2. It's a number that I'm happy about considering where it started.[/size]

Congrats, welcome to the club. :-) I'm a *lot* happier with the autoset then I was with a fixed pressure S8 when my doctor wouldn't accept my observations as valid input.

According to my DME when I talked to them the other day, as long as the machine is in the "rental" period, it can be exchanged. But as we all know from experience, what one supplier says does not make it truth.

Take a deep breath and count to zen.
