I just finished 2 hours with my cpap on. I rested quietly in bed but did not sleep ( usual for me) Pressure started at 4, and ramped to 11.5 . At the end of two hours, I realized I was breathing against the machine. We are not in sync. So as I am trying to finish exhaling, the machine is trying to push more air in. It really gets uncomfortable at 11. When I checked the AHI for those two hours, it said 33.8. I turned off the machine, as I had developed a headache and chest pain. This disturbs me because I do have a ventricular arrhythmia and a left bundle branch block. I have had one cardiac ablation, but the arrhythmia came back 2 years ago, so I am at risk. I HAVE been having more arrhythmia and chest pain since starting the cpap, but did not link the two until now. Unfortunately, with the level of chest pain and arrhythmia I am having tonight, there will likely be no sleep - again. And you bet I will be calling the pulmonologist first thing tomorrow. My next appointment is not scheduled until the end of August since three doctors just left the practice leaving only one to see the patient load of four doctors. I'm very sure he will squeeze me in somehow.

Sleeprider, I am sure I will have questions about this as I think it over tonight. I AM disappointed that the cpap "experiment" has gone awry for me. Thanks for your kind guidance.

as migy said, you don't count anything while you are awake, our awake breathing is all over the place.

Sweetpea, the higher pressures are probably not helping you. Once we can look at a detailed daily graph, we can probably change things up pretty significantly. If I was blindly guessing, I'd just put you on 8.0 fixed CPAP, and that would likely give you significant relief, but it would be so much better to look closer at what is going on.

Okay, ajack. Keeping that in mind. However, I can't ignore the chest pain, headache, and increased arrhythmia while on the cpaap. Something is wrong.

Sleeprider, I am working on the charts and hope to post before day's end. Also, I was able to get an earlier appointment with the very busy pulmonologist 4 days from now. But I am learning so much more here on the apnea board, thanks to kind people like you. It feels like I am not doing this alone now.

Sleeprider, Here is a daily chart from May 3. Hope this one is right. Thanks for the help. . . Oops! Unfortunately, it says I have exceeded my attachment quota, so I cannot share the information you need to see. What a pain! I am not good at this, especially while sleep deprived. I really don't know what to do now.

agreed, as I said in post 17, the centrals aren't settling down and I would be seeing my doctor. From what I've read, centrals for new cpap users can settle down in a couple of months. It's not happening in your case.
Getting upset about cpap won't make the treatment run smoother, either. That can bring on those symptoms you have while awake, without cpap being to blame. They say ASV are harder to get use to than cpap, so I really would try to get the cpap working for now. If there is a move to ASV, it should make it easier.
I think sleeprider has the right idea, a constant fixed pressure.
