AirCurve power problem
Thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else has this intermittent issue with their aircurve machine... On occasion when I turn off my machine the display gets brighter, then it trips like a circuit breaker. The only way to make it go back to normal standby is to unplug it and plug it back in, (ie. it goes dead). The machine is only a few years old... Any thoughts before I panic and order a new one?
It's not a bad connection, and the power supply is not
overheating... (It acts like when you turn on a lamp and the bulb
instantly blows/burns out) I believe the switch must be going bad, or
else it may be a circuit protection devise that trips if the power is
cycled quickly? (i.e.. I may be inadvertently hitting the button twice
when I shut it off sometimes?)
RE: AirCurve power problem
I don't know if I am addressing your observation/problem or not. The Resmed A10 series has an ambient light sensor. It will brighten the display when the CPAP's surrounding light level (lux) reaches a certain brightness. Holding the Start/Stop switch down for a few seconds, as opposed to a quick press, will place the A10 in a Sleep Mode. The Sleep mode will terminate power to all parts of the CPAP until the next time you activate the blower.
Here is the excerpt from the User manual:
Quote:Power save mode
Your AirSense 10 device records your therapy data. In order to allow it to transmit the data to your
care provider, you should not unplug the device. However, you can put it into power save mode to
save electricity.
To enter power save mode:
- Press and hold Start/Stop for three seconds.
The screen goes black.
To exit power save mode:
- Press Start/Stop once.
The Home screen is displayed.
I hope this is what you are describing.

Hey that was a good possibility, but unfortunately not what's happening... (When it happens you have to unplug the machine, then plug it back in for it to work)
I emailed my DME provider, but all they came up with is a loose power cord. I checked that first, and everything is snug... (The Power Supply is not overheating either)
RE: AirCurve power problem
Did you check the end of the power cord that plugs into the back of the machine?

Yes. Everything was snug as it should be... It has happened to me three times in the past several months. Twice when I went to shut down in the morning, and once when we had a power outage. It hasn't done it in about a month now, but I just happened to think about it this morning and am trying to figure out if I should be concerned...
RE: AirCurve power problem
Your power supply may have gotten a big gulp of voltage when the power came back on. They have some large capacitors that can only absorb so much. I would look at picking up a KFD AC power supply for the AS10 off of Amazon. They are very reliable and a lot less expensive ($23) as opposed to a Resmed.

Still is working fine, so??? I need to get another PS anyway though, (an adaptor for 12 V as well) Thanks!
RE: AirCurve power problem
I have been using KFD's S9, and now the A10's, 12/24 DC-DC power supply for several years and not had a single problem. The 12/24 DC-DC are a little more expensive than the AC-DC units at around $33 USD.
The last time I priced out a comparable Resmed supply, it was around $90 USD.

I've never had a PS problem from the four machines I've owned. (odds are probably against me). Anyway I've always used a inverter off a trolling motor battery in the past, but I think I'll try one of those 12/24 set ups...
RE: AirCurve power problem
What you describe sounds like a "Crowbar Circuit" Check Wikipedia for the full description ( a good read for those inquiring minds). Meanwhile check your DME for possible warranty coverage of the power brick. If it reoccurs on a new power brick, it might be time to look at a whole house surge protector, or it will be time to talk to your DME supplier about warranty coverage on your AirCurve 10.
Here is a short description from Wiki: "Thus a crowbar will not automatically return operation when the overvoltage condition is removed, power must be removed entirely to allow the crowbar to return to its neutral state."
A spare power supply is handy to have (My TV takes the same rated power brick, same plug configuration).
