Same number of events with or without the mouth guard I got to treat sleep apnea?
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 2-3 years ago and for treatment I had 2 options. Either a CPAP machine or a mouth guard that moves the jaw forward. The mouth guard (not sure what the correct name is) felt like a much less intrusive option so I went with it.
To make a "long" story short my diagnosed sleep apnea was around 15 events a night at baseline according to the hospital and with the mouth guard it was down to 5 and I got a letter home that I was now "cured". For different reasons I have been sceptical though and about a month ago I bought myself a CPAP machine (resmed Airsense10 with nose pillow mask) to try it out to see what results I get with it.
I am still new to it and experimenting with pressure etc but my events per night varies from 5 to 8 when using the Resmed CPAP.
The thing that makes me really confused though is that I have tried to use the CPAP at the same time with and without my mouth guard that supposedly brings my events down to under 5. The thing is though that the number of events I have recorded on the CPAP is identical no matter if I use the mouth guard or not a long with the CPAP for the night? How should I interpret that? Does that mean that the mouth guard does not actually do anything for me?
If the mouth guard is supposedly bringing my events down to 5 and under it is strange that with using both the mouth guard and the cpap at the same time I have nights with up to 8 events. And same score with nights when just using the cpap without the mouth guard.
Anyone else that have used mouth guard or both or have any feedback or input?
