Are Apneas and Sodium connected?
Just read the Diet and AHI thread. Is there any link between daily sodium and Apnea.

RE: Are Apneas and Sodium connected?
Other than the obvious ... more sodium, more liquid retention, more peeing, more sleep disruptions?

"There was a significant correlation between the AHI and sodium intake." -- Relationship between sodium intake and sleep apnea in patients with heart failure

Here is a start on other studies...

"Excessive sodium may have a role in the pathogenesis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) for patients with hypervolemic conditions, but it is unclear whether this is valid for all patients with OSA, including those with no significant comorbidities." Association of Sodium with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. The ELSA-Brasil Study   (note: hypervolemic = fluid overload)

Increased dietary sodium is related to severity of obstructive sleep apnea in patients with resistant hypertension and hyperaldosteronism

Hope this helps.
