BiPAP doesn't work anymore
Hi everyone,

I have a bit of a frustrating story to share—I’m back to square one.

Context: I have sleep apnea and a deviated septum, and I’ve been experimenting with different setups to find what works best for me. I wasn’t feeling bad, but I wasn’t feeling good either.
On July 6th, I tried a nasal spray, and it was nothing short of miraculous! The difference was night and day—going from 0.15 99.5% FL to 0 99.5% FL was astounding.

To make sure the improvement was due to the nasal spray, I decided not to use it the next day, and sure enough, things weren’t as great. The day after, same story.

So, I went back to using the spray, and for six glorious days, everything was perfect. But then, I woke up one morning with a congested nose, likely from overusing the spray. I figured I’d take a break for a few days and then start again.

I waited eight days, resumed the nasal spray, but this time… nothing! I’ve used it for 16 consecutive days since, and not only has it not helped, but I’ve actually felt progressively worse—almost as bad as before starting CPAP.

I’ve started waking up in the middle of the night, unable to get back to sleep, and I’m completely drained. I’ve kept a detailed diary to track every symptom, ensuring my perception of how I felt in the past compared to how much worse it’s gotten is accurate.

So, I decided to run an A/B test: I slept sitting up, and it was great. But when I went back to the machine, my sleep quality plummeted again. Unfortunately, sleeping upright only worked for about a week before it stopped being effective for unknown reasons.

Now I am way worse then my "normal", it is a pain that I only felt on pre-cpap.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? What should I try?

Any chance you could post some of those charts here? It is a struggle for me to deal with the imgbb charts and SleepHQ colours are difficult for us colour-blind folks. Also, please read the link in my sig for “Formatting OSCAR Charts”. Those are the ones we prefer to start working from.

Overall, nothing stands out as being an issue. The zoomed in sections are normal sleep and arousals. The 10/8/2024 chart shows a period of wonky breathing from 04:10 to 04:50ish. Other than that, nothing jumps out.

I suggest going back to something more moderate and letting us help you tweak from there. Try starting with the following:

Mode VPAPauto
EPAPmin 7
IPAPmax 15
PS 4
No ramp

Give that a go for a few nights and post again. We can work from there.
