I'm wondering if the Auto mode senses when a digit is present in the probe and automatically starts recording. Whereas the Manual setting won't respond until you instruct it to.

I'm only guessing because I didn't have new model but the old, maybe Auto record starts when it senses something to record, manual is a button push...

Must be a new feature where Auto senses when your finger is inserted into the probe.
Manual presumably you would have to manually start the recording using the button press.
As an experiment.....
Don't put your finger in the probe yet
Set it to Auto mode, then let it sit for a few minutes.
Insert your finger into the probe and see if it starts recording. Let it record for about 5 minutes then take your finger out.
See if it stops recording and shuts itself off
Then see if the data shows in the Smart Device Assistant software.
Auto record would be a handy feature. There have been a few nights I turned mine on and forgot to set it to record!

In addition to my other techno-problems, I now have the burden of poor Chinglish language skills ref: Contac oximetry. In Feb 2020, I got a Contac CMS50A for overnight O2 record. Menu was horrible, but I did manage to import several records into Oscar. I swear the menu response was inconsistent. I gave up in despair, but then in Nov 2021, I tried to upgrade to a Contac CMS50F hoping the software problem had been fixed. I could get my unit to record a night’s O2 data, but even though Oscar says it recognizes the CMS 50F, Oscar absolutely will not recognize mine and will not import from the oximeter. Using Smart Device Assistant I can import the night’s record into a data file, so it says. But the problem is, Oscar will not recognize the presence of any new data file, and my File Explorer does not show any O2 data files except for the “Sample” one.
I found that apparently there were several versions of the CMS 50F and several versions of its menu. My machine came with a website printed in the box for the software, called “Smart Device Assistant” dated 4 Mar 2020, at http://www.dlsoftw.com. Compared to Contac’s prior software this looks incredibly detailed, but to my eyes incredibly indecipherable. The words do not mean what they think they mean?? I looked to YouTube for enlightenment and found every video showing what was said to be for a CMS 50F showed a menu significantly different from mine, so more despair.
I’m going to uninstall and re-install next, but I don’t have a good feeling.

Contec changed their firmware, and at the same time, changed the communication protocol to directly connect to it in OSCAR. This necessitates importing the Contec software generated SpO2 file only. This file is, as previously pointed out, a Windows only application.

This is the file generated when I import data to Smart Device. "1. Data Index:1Filename: John_1_1_20220312111432.SpO2" a total computer search finds no such file.

As an alternative to find out where Smart Device Assistant is "hiding" your files, you might try using a Windows Explorer search. Your search term could be either John_1_1_20220312111432.SpO2 or, for less work involved, *.SpO2. Run the search from the Computer listing on the Explorer's left side. This will search every drive and directory on your computer. If you opt to try this , please report back as to where you found it. Contec does have a history of changing data locations.
