[CPAP] Interpreting Sleephead Stats EPAP

Interpreting Sleephead Stats EPAP
[attachment=2789]     I have been using a Dreamstation for almost 3 months. I just downloaded Sleephead to see more of the CPAP results. I am curious to understand the Sleepyhead stats if everything looks good overall and specifically the EPAP stats. I was trying to understand if my EPAP stats are ok for my pressure setting which is base of 8 with APAP. I am still getting airway close while I am on my back which is caused by pallete flap at the back of mouth/throat area. Sleep Doc said that I may have to continue sleeping on my side which ofcourse I roll on my back and still have issues. I would appreciate any thoughts or opinions on my results

RE: Interpreting Sleephead Stats EPAP
G'day Gary, welcome to Apnea Board.

Your machine will have a "flex" setting which lowers the pressure slightly as you exhale. I think this is what is being reported as EPAP - the exhalation pressure is a couple of cm below the set pressure. Overall your numbers don't look too bad, but there is room for improvement. I'd consider raising the minimum pressure a tad, which should reduce your obstructive apneas and hypopneas. Maybe bump it up 0.5cm at a time, leave it for a week, then review.

Apart from the numbers, how are you feeling?

RE: Interpreting Sleephead Stats EPAP
Thank you, I appreciate the advice! I have my flex setting on the dreamstation set to 2, range 1-3 which supposedly gives relief when exhaling. I am feeling better after almost 3 months, I was expecting more positive signs at this point. Although the first 6 weeks I was on a very low setting of 6 on CPAP, now I am 8 with APAP after visit with Sleep doc. Results have been better. I think my titrate study which was in lab was not very good.

Thanks again!
