[CPAP] Normal retest but confused about DRS orders

Normal retest but confused about DRS orders
I have lost weight so my doctor ordered a retest. It came back normal. Why would my doctor want me to continue using my CPAP if my test was normal? Will it damage my teeth if I dont need it?

RE: Normal retest but confused about DRS orders
More information please!

Are you currently using Cpap? If so, please fill out your profile.

What do your mean, "it came back normal"? I can only assume you are talking about an overnight sleep study??? What were your AHI numbers on this retest compared to prior. If you don't know,
call your doctor.
It's a bit hard to help you with the limited information you are giving us.

Don't see that Cpap can damage teeth unless you are mouth breathing.

RE: Normal retest but confused about DRS orders
I called the Sleep Lab today for my information about my test. I was told that in 2009 I took the 'home test' and the numbers were .5 per hour which meant it was 'normal'. They gave me an overnight test in their lab 2 months later which showed severe apnea with stopping breathing 63 times. The 'home test' I took this last week showed .4 per hour which meant it was 'normal'. She asked how long I had been off the machine when I took this last 'in home' test and I told her that was the first night. She said that could make a difference in my readings. It's all Greek to me.

I have heard you can ruin your teeth if the air setting is too high because it dries out your mouth. I just wish I could know for sure if I could give up the machine or not.

Georgene,
Something doesn't sound quite right with the difference in readings between the home test and the sleep lab test.

There are a lot of variables that can make up the difference in readings, like how long you slept. Since your in lab test was in 2009, you may want to get another one done. Sleep apnea is nothing to play around with.

As far as ruining your teeth, it won't happen unless you are mouth breathing or using an oral mask which is something most don't use.

Your profile tells us nothing. What mask were you using that you are worried about ruining your teeth?
What machine and what pressure have you been on????
